Farnborough Airliner Orders? (Lack Of!)

Sun Jul 28, 2002 6:58 am

There doesn't seem to have been much news on the aircraft order front, with respect to the Farnborough Airshow, held over the past week.

I understand this given the state of the economy, but I was under the impression that Easyjet were due to announce their order at Farnborough...what happened?

Are they still studying the options then?

Any other orders news?

I've checked the Farnborough site, didn't see anything.

Boeing won 2-0. New firm orders that is.  Big thumbs up

Aerospace Notebook: Deafening silence after 9/11 drowns out jets' roar

Saturday, July 27, 2002

By JAMES WALLACE
SEATTLE POST-INTELLIGENCER REPORTER

LONDON -- The only thing louder than the scream of the fighter jets at this year's Farnborough Air Show was the deafening silence that the industry's worst-ever slump cast over the event.

...For those keeping score at Farnborough, The Boeing Co. had only two firm orders for new planes -- a couple of 777s from the Dutch flagship carrier KLM. By that measure, rival Airbus had none. Airbus did announce that KLM had signed a letter of intent to buy six A330-200 jets for delivery beginning in 2005, with options to buy or lease 18 more. But that order is not yet firm.

I'm clinging to a desperate hope that SIA orders the 747XQLR in lieu of the A345.....!

Thanks for the link, an interesting article.

I picked up a couple of leaflets from the Boeing and Airbus pavilions at Farnborough today.

I couldn't care less what a/c they choose, as long as they keep their fares low, I'm very happy. Big grin

It was well-known that Boeing wasn't planning to announce any orders, and I don't recollect ever hearing that the easyJet order -- whichever way it goes -- was due to be announced at Farnborough. Sounds like people making assumptions and jumping the gun.

Plenty of people concluded that, because Boeing was sponsoring the media centre at F'boro, then they would be announcing some heavy stuff. Cue eggs and faces...

"Boeing won 2-0. New firm orders that is."

Qatar Airways firmed up options for 3 aircraft from Airbus and took out on option on one other. Qatar Airways also signed for an A300 conversion which of course doesn't count as an Aircraft order. I don't know why the above article didn't mention it.

So Airbus 3 : Boeing 2 but the real Winner was Embraer with 10 aircraft !!!.

Boeing in pdx
The Ethiopian Airlines and Aeromexico deal is a lease and will not add to Boeings order books since they involve existing aircraft ordered.

QatarAirways:

No, Qatar Airways didn't announce any orders at the Farnborough Air Show. I was expecting Qatar to confirm their order for 2 A388s at the Air Show. But to my surprise that they didn't.
