Delta's N751AT (ex-ATA)

How (and why) did Delta end up with ATA's ex-N751AT? I thought this was a bit odd. Has Delta aquired any other 757's from other carriers?

Just a thought on my part here, but Delta has 4 ex-ATA 757s. ATA first bought them from SQ I believe, with P&W engines. ATA then decided they prefered the RR-powered 757. Since DL has an all P&W-powered 757 fleet, they picked up those 4 ships. This kind of thing goes on all the time in the airline business. Regards.

N900PC is a 757-26D built for, but not delivered to Shanghai Airlines. The cabin reconfig took us about a month......

I flew on N750AT on 9/16/94 from Philadelphia to Keflavik when the aircraft was opearting the Military Charter Mission for AMC. One year later I left Iceland on N757AT going to Philadelphia. I saw N757AT at ATL in 1997 and then I saw it at my home airport (KCHS) in 2000. Delta got them in late 96 I believe.

DL picked up the 4 ex-ATA aircraft (which were built for SQ and operated by them for a rather short time) because they were PW powered and available....I think that DL got the 4 aircraft in the late 1990s, when DL (and the other carriers) were expanding quickly and were happy to get any available aircraft. The Shanghai 757 is the other 757 that DL picked up around the same time......I believe that DL purchased it off the Boeing assembly line.

DL also purchased a few (6?) ex-Gulf Air 763s to expand international services and get the L1011-500s off transatlantic routes a bit more quickly.....these airliners had the right engine, although the ex-Gulf Air planes have a different cabin plan due to the fact that the emergency exit locations and pax doors are in a different config on these aircraft.

DL also picked up some 733s from Germania, on lease, to supplement the 733s that DL inherited from Western.

Times changed dramatically this past year, there are now so many planes parked and in storage.......but in the late 1990s, airlines were constantly on the look out for aircraft that would work within their fleets to allow expansion on a quicker basis.

There are also a few ex EAL B-727's in the DL fleet along with some former Ozark and at least one ex Kiwi 727.

An Asiana 767-300ER that is in the same configuration as the Gulf Air a/c.
