One killed in crash involving two light aircraft

One person is dead and two seriously injured after a crash involving two light aircraft at Moorabbin airport, south of Melbourne.

The crash occurred just after 6:30pm AEST today.

Two light aircraft crashed on the ground, both bursting into flames.

The pilot of one of the planes died instantly.

On the other plane, both the pilot and one passenger escaped with only minor injuries.

They have been taken to Dandenong Hospital.

Roads around the airport have been closed to traffic, affecting Centre Dandenong Road, Boundary Road and Lower Dandenong Road.
