AA F100s - New Attitude

Tue Jul 30, 2002 3:57 am

I met an inbound DFW-TUL F100 today, and was pleasantly surprised to find it had been redone inside, for the most part.

The First Class cabin had new seats (similar to those in the S80 & 737s). The wall coverings, carpeting & curtains have been updated with AA's new interior look. The overhead bins were the new, larger, rounder ones. The only drawback was that the coach cabin still has the old (light blue) seats. Other than that, it looked like a completely "new" aircraft. I have to admit, the updated cabin makes quite a difference. It was almost enjoyable to be on! The cabin had an open feel, and it was so much brighter. Even the crew changeover was surprised & delighted with the "new cabin." Now, if AA will only put in the new coach seats, the F100 will be a winner!

This 'new' interior was introduced on the Fokker 70 in 1994. All Fokker 100's from 1995 had the same interior.

Leo,
He is referring to American's new interior. The bulk of American's aircraft (namely the F-100 fleet) have the original overhead bins and the older seats. American is updating overhead bins with a larger style to fit more rollaboard bags (can fit them depth wise, not just length wise).
It's great to hear that AA's F-100s are starting to be refit. Now, if they'd just fix the First Class cabin.... that's one aircraft I'd rather be in coach than First.... if I wanted that level of intimacy and sparsity of space I'd take a Saab.

Seiple,

Are the SAABs more cramped than say the EMB-120's?

Please advise,

I couldn't tell you... I have yet to ride on the EMB-120. It's similar capacity and configuration... my only frame of reference as far as fuselage diameter and headroom with Embraer products is the ERD/ERJ. I'd say the Saab feels smaller diameter-wise than the Embraer jets with slightly less headroom.

Seiple,

I have been trying to get a good feel for what flying in a Saab is like.
I have never been on one and will be flying on them quite a bit over the next few months.

Can you give me a detailed description of a previous flight that includes how the planes "rides", handles turbulence, weather, clear skies, take offs, landings?

Also, if you could include the links to any trip reports you've done on a SAAB, that would be nice as well.

Thanks so much for all your help!

CoAir@IAH, I'll e-mail you as it would further stray this post off topic.
