Are these airlines a result of the Canadian merger? How many more will they come up with next?

I'm waiting for AC Rock more than the others  Big grin

Seriously tho, this has to stop, i think AC is going to do themselves a lot of damage one way or another, making a million new airlines under itself is not the answer.

But on the plus side, gives us Canadian spotters something new to look out for, even if it is a pink puke machine in Toronto or Ottawa  Big grin

What is the point of having all these subsidiaries? I mean, Jazz, Tango, Zip (did I miss any)? Is there a difference between them (besides the colourful liveries)?

What comes next?

Nothing after Zip.

What's the point of all these subsidiaries?

Adapting to a maket where people who have various needs.

What are all these airlines?

Jazz =regional: small planes (Bae-146's, Dash 8's and CRJ's to small airports)

Tango = low cost carrier adapted for the eastern market. You pay for food.

Zip = wholly owned subsidiary of AC. It is, like Tango, a low cost carrier, but this one is adapted to western Canada's needs.

Got it?

If so, good! If not, go to bed.

here is a brief breakdown of the carriers:

Air Canada: AKA-MapleFlot Smile
Tango: Created by Air Canadato be a lowcost Eastern Canadian brand.
Jazz: name of the 5 Air Canada Regional Carriers merged into one.
Zip: future Western based discount carrier operating initially between YYC-YVR to replace current Air Canada flights. Will be non-unionized unlike the rest of Air Canada.

The funny thing is that Air Canada sells Zip as being independant of itself. But then why is a Zip plane flying for Air Canada....

Jazz is just like US Airways Express, United Express, American Eagle, Lufthansa Cityline, etc...
I compare Tango to JetBlue or AirTran.
I compare Zip to Westjet or Southwest.
Air Canada is also developing a low-cost International Airline......like QANTAS' new Australian Airlines (I think Australian Airlines is international).

Air Canada's goal was and is to introduce these new brands so that Canadians subconsciously believe there are a lot of choices and that Air Canada is not really running a monopoly. Although, most Canadians are able to connect the dots.

Air Canada can't win in. They won't keep their 80% market-share for long no matter what they do. The age of high prices is heading out the door.

The only airline under Air Canada's banner that I feel is in real danger is Air Canada itself. Tango, Zip, Jazz (although not really low-fare), and the International Airline soon to come, are what will be the Air Canada of the future.

FallingGeese....

What are the five airlines making up Jazz.....

I know Air Ontario, Air Nova, and Air BC,

The only others I can think of are Air Alliance and Central Mountain Air.....but I don't think the Beech's are being repainted........I think they're being phased out. Do you know???

There're also a couple non-geographical angles to all this malarkey:

a)fleet-distribution

--Zip supposed to get the 732s before they finally get retired, a "few short years" from now, perhaps?  Big grin
--Jazz sort of circumvents scope-clause restrictions from mainline and so becomes privvy to some RJs, small, medium, and maybe large too.

b)competitor-killer

--Tango originally hatched while Canada3000 was still around and probably meant to undercut it. And while it didn't do it in directly --C3 having Sept.11 aftereffects as a blow it couldn't recover from-- Tango's very much still around as a hedge against new and recycled C3 entrants to the market in the East, which at the moment meaning Jetsgo, Canjet, and a slowly-Eastwardly-expanding-Westjet), and regularly seems to be engaging in price battles to make it difficult for those other guys.

--Zip is hatched, even more obviously it would appear,-- right down to also having Headquarters in Calgary for instance -- to go up against WestJet out West and do the same kind of playing around with the market and competitors that Tango does in the East.

Air BC, Canadian Regional, Air Ontairio, Air Nova and...I'm not usre if there is a fifth one. Central Mountain Air is a tier three Air Canada carrier so it's exempt for Jazz. (basically it's a separate carrier feeding service for AC.)

I guess that Air Alliance would be the fifth one.

Air Canada's goal is to compete in the worst liveries ever contest, and there is a max of four liveries allowed/airline. That's why they have all these subsidiaries.
