What RWY(S) Does The Concorde Use At Jfk?

Fri Aug 02, 2002 6:29 am

I remember a couple years back being on an AA 767 to LHR, and seeing the Concorde takeoff in front of us on RWY31L. This would make sense as 31L/13R is the longest runway. It seemed to me that this was the only runway available for the Concorde at JFK since it is the longest. Is this true, or can it also go off 4L/22R, the second longest runway? Also which runways are used the most for the departure?

Runway 31L and 22L/R are used for Concorde departures because of the noise. In a pinch I think 13R is a possibility but they'll usually opt for 22L/R instead. It's more a question of noise abatement than runway length as Concorde routinely uses 31R/13L for arrivals.

Hope that helps....

I've only ever seen the Concorde use the 31L/13R Runway for departures and the parallel runway for arrivals. I was lucky enough once to see the BA Concorde depart 31L while the AF Concorde was arriving 31R.
