Look At The Final 727 At LGA

Fri Aug 02, 2002 11:59 am

www.oag.com just reported this to me:

Flight DL 1616 - Delta Air Lines Aircraft 757

Depart Atlanta, Atlanta Hartsfield Intl Apt Dep. Time 11:30am Aug 02

Arrive New York, New York La Guardia Apt Arr. Time 01:36pm Aug 02

Travel Time 2 hours 6 mins Total Stops None

My 1:30 DL727 has now been replaced by a 757.

Two days ago, Mirrodie and I were on my infamous dock. And we watched, unknowingly that the 727 that we watched come in at 1:35PM was to be the last for us, and the end of an era.

I give you here, five frames from that final approach video you will ever see.

DL727, I bid you farewell. The sounds and dock-shaking that I experienced often from your Runway 13 departures will be forever in my memory.

I thank you for the opportunity.

(the video clip of this is 97 megs. Anyone who with a high speed connection and patience can contact me if you are interested in receiving it)

BigPhilNYC,

Just a thought. Why don't you put the file up on Kazaa? It would probably be a little easier on you since it will save you the trouble of havong to IM it to everyone. Once you put it on Kazaa anyone can then download it. Just tell us what the file name is and we can get it ourselves. If you don't have or use Kazaa, I can put it up for you.

Email me at trickijedi@yahoo.com.

I just hate leaving Kazaa open so much. I prefer to do one upload at a time as well, so not to drain too much of my resources.

I also want to keep track of who is taking my stuff.

Also, to everyone:

If I find anyone selling my shit or passing it around without permission, I won't send my lawyers after you or whine in Aviation Photography about how my stuff was taken. I have other methods of enforcement:

Thanks for the info BigPhilNYC, the 727 is one of my favorites.
I wish I was there at LGA to witness the event, that was the last arrival of a 727 in LGA but did you witness the last 727 departure out of LGA? I imagine that the last departure was a flight bound for ATL the same day. LGA has seen B727 aircraft since 1964, it was the first jet aircraft type to be allowed to fly there since it was designed to be operated out of airport with shorter runways. Until the late 90's, a lot of B727's of all major US carriers were seen at LaGuardia. You may not see one of these birds at LGA anymore but I think there are still a few of them left down in EWR. Only Delta and Northwest still have 727's, so I imagine that out of EWR you can still catch a ride in that aircraft if you take a flight to either ATL or DTW which are Delta and Northwest hubs respectively. Better do it now before it's too late, that'll last one more year at the most. American retired the 727 three months ago.
I have flown on a Delta 727 once in my life: a Shuttle flight from LGA to DCA in 1997.

Ben,

Transmeridian stills flies 727s, and they were flying them out of LGA, but to be honest, I haven't seen them in months. I can't even find a schedule of Transmeridian for me to be able to track it.

I did not get that last departure, however. I didn't even realize that I witnessed the last one until after the fact.

1964. I filmed the last 727 to land at LGA after a 46 year dynasty.

This is a really big thing to me. LGA just got a LOT more boring.

Just looked at Transmeridian flight schedule for July and August and it looks like the last departure from LGA was July 7th (LGA - MCI). August shows no arrival/departures for the month.

Phil,
LGA has always been boring, JFK is so much better Smile. And, you can still see a DL 727 once a day, on DFW-JFK.

Hey, loser,

who suggested we go to LGA that day??? HUH???

"I WANT HALF, EDDIE!!!"

BTW, we need help at JFK. US Customs sucks. Got to love racial profiling.

Got to look at the video of the DL 727 flying overhead. Great shot and sound! I absolutely loved the video and had to shut my door at work so I could turn the volume up loud!!!!

I have to say, I'm going to miss the 727 when she's finally gone. A beautiful plane and a true workhorse!

BigPhilNYC, great shot/job on the video. I wish I was under that plane on its last flight into LGA if its the case!

Also, didn't realize we had so many NYC'ers on the board! Great to see.

I would have loved to be there watching the final 727 come in. The 727 was such a part of LGA, I'm sad to see it leave. Awesome video!

Transactoid:

If you're talking about the photos Phil posted, you must not know how to tell different airplanes apart. the wings give it away instantly as being a 727 (since phil said it was a DL, and they don't fly Tu's). Also, in the 3rd picture, you can distinctly see the 3rd engine...

Yea.. too bad LGA lost it's 727's at least for the time being. Perhaps DL will reinstate them in the future, but the clock is ticking down for them. Not too many other airlines out there which would fly 727's into LGA either. Guess it's to JFK or EWR for the 3-holer now. And phil, i promise, i'll have the money by this friday...

I hope...for your sake, JCXP, that you do.
lol

But back on topic....

I doubt they will bring back the 727 to LGA. Delta, according to sources, will be getting rid of their 727s by next summer, and I don't think they'd bring that noisy plane back into LGA.

AerLingus,

I also have footage of an AerLingus A330 landing at JFK. I can send you that also.

I would also like to talk to you about that picture in your profile. There is a stunning similarity between that and a picture that I have of 23rd street near MAdison Square park in New York City.

Please, email me at pdernerjr@nyc.rr.com

Yikes BigPhil...lose the gun pics.

Actually...I would expect Trump's 727 to fly in and out of LGA. I always see her parked while I'm in Red Carpet.

I was just thinking the other day how i kind of miss the old whine of the engines and long long long take-off roll.

Before anyone gets the wrong idea, let me just state this:

I know BigPhilNYC personally. In fact, I am the co-director of the film.

His photos ARE NOT to be taken TOO seriously. He is not a UNABOMBER type.

He is safe and will not kill unless provoked (self defense of self, of his films, etc).
