BA World Traveler +

Mon Aug 05, 2002 4:36 am

Good afternoon -

I want some advice on BA World Traveler + product. At the BA site, I viewed the new WT+, and it looks pretty great. A lot more affordable that Club class.

I am considering doing an SFO-LHR-SFO trip in October due to the special upgrade promotion to WT+.

The cost for 2 persons came out to US $2141.00. A lot cheaper than the US $20k for Club class.

Has anyone flown in WT+, and if so, could you please give me the details and if it is worthwhile.

Kindest regards,

Patrick

Thank you Jaysit!

I look forward to your trip report. Although, I need to buy the tix by 8/8/02, so once I purchase them...I'll be stuck with it.

Have a safe and wonderful trip.

If you can easily afford it, go for it.

There have been some posts on this already (check archive); FYI, I've flown WTP on a service to JFK.

Seats are noticeably wider, and very comfy; legroom is ample (it's not just the statistics i.e. 38'' of pitch), you can actually feel the difference, when stretching your legs in front of you, without hitting something and stubbing you toes!

Laptop power points are available if you need them; as are footrests; I can't remember the PTVs being any larger, but you've obviously got them too, on each seat back, except the first row, where the PTVs are fixed into the seat and fold up/down.

Recline seems to be identical to standard Y.

As I said, if you've got the cash, it's a nice break from the stuffy seats in the cabin behind you, especially on BA's longer sectors.

Recommended.

As an employee for BA, in all fairness to my company, I have to admit, all you're paying for is a wider seat with some extra legroom and footrests, however if that's all you're looking for, then it's perfect. You still get World Traveller service, i.e. same WT meals however there is a slightly wider selection in the IFE.

All-in-all, you can expect to pay roughly twice the equivalent World Traveller fare.

I flew WTP last month on LHR-NRT (B777). It was a really nice product - wider seat and more legroom, but I don't it's worth paying so much more over regular World Traveller. I think the regular World Traveller product is pretty damn good itself.

What informative feedback. Such a difficult decision to consider. It sounds like I would be better off in regular BA WT or just save my pennies for Club or 1st class...LOL.

Any other airlines out of SFO that anyone thinks has great biz class service at a fair value?

Happy flying,

I guess it all depends how tall you are. I am 6ft1, and felt like I was being slowly tortured to death in WT on a transatlantic flight. BA have a very good product overall, but those seats are torture. I see WT+ as offering what I really want - some more legroom and fewer people breathing down my neck around me.

I recently flew WT+ MIA-LHR-MIA in a 744. The main difference was that it was significantly less crowded than WT. The seat was a little wider and if you sit on a window side you only have one neighbor. I didn't notice a huge difference in seat recline, and the legrest is not useful if you're 6 feet tall like me.

The service was IDENTICAL to regular WT (except that you get served first because you're up front). I even went into the galley and asked for a newspaper before departure, and after the flight attendant learned I was in WT+ she said she couldn't give me one! Then I found another flight attendant who got me one from the Club cabin. The service on the flight in general, however, was excellent.

As LH423 stated, you really have to decide if you're willing to pay double for a little more room. I guess everything's relative.

If I was you, I'd look into buying a round-the-world ticket. I used to get them on BA and SQ in First with a Concorde add on from South Africa for just US$5,000!!

Richardw - theres not a lot in it in terms of comfort between WT+ on the 777 and the 744, the only real difference is that the cabin of the 744 is slightly wider so you get marginally more shoulder room (both aircraft maintain 2-4-2 layout in WT+). Although to be honest - you would probably not really notice the difference !!

I experienced WT+ on a recent (May '02) flight from IAD to LHR on a 777 (see me archived trip report). I was upgraded from regular WT. The extra leg room and larger seat were great. On my return, I was on another 777 in WT. it was jam packed, and I lost the feeling in my legs. Just awful. I agree with the thought above that the meal service and F/A attention are the same as in WT. For me, WT is just too tight. I don't need F/As to wipe my ass, but more room and privacy are worth the higher ticket price. Club is way too expensive, and the "pod" style seating is also too dense.

If you are taller than 6ft i would recommend the WT+ cabin just for the extra space... i was upgraded [along with my mum, dad and brother] on a flight to LHR from YYZ [on account that they couldnt seat the four of us together... and my dad was a gold card holder, but we were all on cheap tickets]
it was great to have just that little bit more legroom, on paper it doesnt seem all that much, 7 inches, but when you are in the cabin you really notice the difference, and to be honest it is far superior, there is more width to the seat as well, so you arent squashed in from the front and the sides as you are in WT.

I say, if you got the money, go for it, give it a try, you might like it, you might not, but there is no way to know until you have experienced it.
