YHM Spotting

Mon Aug 05, 2002 11:51 am

Went to YHM (Hamilton) today, I was travelling with other people so I did not stay long. I passed in front of the 'passenger terminal' and stopped on East Cargo Road for a look. There was one WestJet B732 unloading and being refueled and one B727F took off, not much other activities. A number of cargo planes from Purolator, ICC, UPS, FedEx and one FirstAir plane were seen. I wondered why there were so many cars parked in the front lot when there were so few flights everyday?

"I wondered why there were so many cars parked in the front lot when there were so few flights everyday?"

The 18-20 WestJet daily departures might have something to do with it.

18-20 departures everyday?? I checked the Westjet web site but did not count that many flights. Maybe all daily WJ movements at YHM?

Fallingeese, you are resourceful  Big thumbs up

How many YYZ passenger traffic went to YHM? YHM is not too convenient for Torontonians IMO, drivers must battle the traffic on QEW.

There are a few that travel to YHM but the airport would do fine without them because a lot of people come from St Cathrines, Niagara, Kitchener-Waterloo Brantford and of course Hamilton, Burlington and Oakville totals over 1 million people living closer its something like 1.7 million. Once the new terminal is completed Probably see a lot more traffic.

I always choose to fly into YHM rather than YYZ. It is nice to be able to have about a 1 minute walk to grab your rental car and be on your way rather than have to fight thru the Pearson crowds and then all the traffic. I usually leave Toronto early on Sunday mornings so the traffic to the airport in YHM is virtually non existent.

One advantage that YHM had and does not anymore is free parking. It would be great to fly somewhere for a few days or a week and just park the car at the airport without worrying about parking fees. But from my understanding, there are parking fees now at YHM.  Sad
