Selvaggio To Head New Low-cost Initiative At Delta

Fri Aug 09, 2002 1:51 am

John Selvaggio, former CEO of Midway Airlines, has been picked to head up Delta's new low-cost initiative. The initiative will likely include an increased focus on Delta's traditional North-South traffic markets along the East Coast, causing a potential increase in hub-bypass flying.

Selvaggio has been Sr.Vice President - ACS at Delta for the last few years. He will be replaced in that position by Rich Cordell.

Will this replace DeltaExpress or be a totally different subsidary of Delta? I hope they don't follow Air Canada's example:Zip,Tango,Buzz,Jazz, etc and have so many lines that you won't be able to tell who you're flying with.

Its dead easy to tell which Airline you are flying on with Air Canada,
they are all the same....
the only difference is on te outside the planes carry different colours...
if you dont get served at all you are on either Tango or Zip...
then, in that case, if the plane is a stupid colour, such as PINK... then you are on the latter....
If you get some service, might not be good but its what they call service, then you must be on mainline, or Jazz...
if they plane is quite large, and painted in toothpaste tube colours, then you are on mainline... if the aircraft happens to be relatively attractively painted, its Jazz  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

LOL, i think they should paint the mainline fleet like that of the Jazz fleet.

Bacl to topic, i thought Delta Express was a "low-cost" operator....
does this mean Express will be transformed, or left seperate from the new identity? Maybe the new entity will not carry the Delta name, but will be owned and operated by [a seperate division of] Delta Airlines? [kinda like Zip not being Air Canada Zip, but Zip operated by Air Canada or whatever].

Anyone know anything more?
