Sun Aug 11, 2002 12:20 am

AA will operate a 2nd daily DFW-CDG flight beginning April 06, 2003, using a 767-300:

AA 124 DFW CDG- 240P 725A#1
AA 125 CDG DFW- 155P 545P

As long as AA's losing huge sums of money, this is not going to stop AF from returning. This 2nd flight I'm sure was only put in to discourage AF from coming back.

Or American is trying to build up more convenient international connections from their Dallas hub instead of routing everybody through Chicago and New York.

AA needs to concentrate on their profitable routes rather than add routes for convenience or trying to out-duel a competitor.

I hope they are adding this because of demand and not the other.
Firings, if well done, are good for employee morale.

This IMO is a serious flaw with AA. They continue to fight multiple turf wars against numerous airlines rather than retreating to their strengths in tough times.

Examples

The current AA/NW fare war..this has been on and off for years.

raising the stakes in ORD with multiple flights in business markets vs UA.
UA had to match. Now everyone loses money.

Pissing of DL by build up of RDU and entering Shuttle Markets with RJ's
DL returns favor by adding DFW RJ's to ORD, MCI, MEF, etc. DL after all
has RJ's to burn. Why pick a fight with the largest RJ operator?

Almost crazy incentive programs to help keep CO and DL out of Latin America.
It works to keep the big players in line, but at a huge loss of revenue to AA.

Then the fight against JB. Setting up service in LGB

Trying to grow California/NYC/BOS/MIA at the same time.

Took on WN for a length of time out of LUV.

Had to one up UA by offering MRTC rather than just matching product.

IMO AA is coming to the realization that they might need to retreat in some markets/regions. Pick it's battles more wisely.

The flights out of dallas are full, the one 777 they send out everyday is always packed. While it may seem like an atempt to push away AF, they already got rid of them with only one flight. Anyways it is much easier to fly to europe from Dallas than from the crowded skies of Boston, New York, and Chicago.

This flight is replacing the Boston-Paris flight. It was downgraded to seasonal, and now it is no longer on the scheds at all. It makes perfect sense. AA has cut capacity at Paris a lot recently. Los Angeles, San Jose, St. Louis, and now Boston. The second daily Dallas flight will make-up for lost capacity. I also would not be surprised to see the Miami-Paris flight go to a 777 in the near future, loads are high enough.
