OST-Spotters: Ex-LTU L1011 Still There?

Wed Aug 14, 2002 4:50 pm

Hello!

Does anyone of you know, if the former LTU-TriStar D-AERP (c/n 1052) is still sitting on the ramp at Oostende?

After more than five years of storage in Tucson it was bought/re-registered by Ducor World and ferried to Oostende in May 2001.

First the registration had been changed and thereafter removed completely.

A few weeks ago I heard some rumors (don´t know the source anymore), that massive corrosion has been discovered at the aircraft and therefore it is not airworthy anymore. Also it was said, that the plane has been bought by a single person (the name is Egli, I think), re-registered as N822DE and ferried to Victorville...!

Is this true? I don´t know how an not airworthy aircraft should be able to get a new registration for a ferry flight across the atlantic.

Thanks a lot for any infos regarding this aircraft...!

Regards,

Frank

According to the Commercial Jet Aircraft Census by Bill Harms web site it has the following entry for ex-D-AERP, but unfortnately it doesn't say where it is now. It would be nice if someone could confirm.

R 1152 L1011-1(1) RB211-22B 07/27/78 DUANE A. EGLI N822DE N337EA, D-AERP, LZ-PTC, LZ-TPC, 3C-QQX [BEING CVTD TO FRTR]

Can anyone add to this?

Duane is the majority owner of Ducor World (formerly Liberia World). The aircraft is being broken up to support the ex Caledonian/JMC aircraft they acquired at the end of last year.

Thank you for the latest news on this aircraft.

But for what reason is this new reg? Isn´t this unusual for a plane which is going to be broken up?

Strange, really strange...!
