I am Caucasian, not African-American; but I understand that it is great to have heroes and role models that you can relate to.
Three items; First, one of the most remarkable individuals I have ever met in my aviation career is a gentleman by the name of Neal V. Loving. Neal was inducted into the Michigan Aviation Hall of Fame either in late 1997 or early 1998; read his book called "Loving's Love", an awesome story. I met Neal at the Air Force Museum in February, 1998 and we swapped letters a few times. Unfortunately, Neal passed away in December, 1998.
Second, I have a good friend who is African-American and a 757 captain for American Trans Air. He lives in Florida, South of Miami. If you are interested in hooking up with him, let me know. I'll have to check with him also to see if he would be able to chat with you on the web.
Third, I have a neighbor who is a Tuskegee Airman; would you be interested in writing him?
Also look up Benjamin Davis, Senior and Junior, Chappy James, and the Tuskegee Airmen on the web and in the library.
Aim high and don't give up.
