Britannia To Fll?

Tue Aug 20, 2002 10:42 am

I was at FLL the other day.
And a work crew was putting up new signs for the opening of Concorse B that will be opening later this month.
When I got over by Term 4 one of the new signs said "Britannia".
I don't remember hearing about the starting service to FLL.
Anybody have any info?

A bunch of ad-hoc charters operating out there this winter with 762s and 763s with regular (fortnightly) services from London Gatwick and Manchester using 763s in addition to that.

Ad hoc services will be from Belfast, Birmingham, Bournemouth, Cardiff, Edinburgh, East Midlands, Exeter and Glasgow.

Total of 65 flights from the UK to FLL between 1st/Nov/02 and 18th/Apr/03

First Britannia flight operating to FLL will be Fri Oct 4th 2002, then every fortnightly Friday after that until Fri Mar 28th 2003.

Up to five 767s every other Friday (mix of 763s and 762s) for you FLL spotters. The 767-200s will operate via Bangor, Maine on the outbound flights for refuelling.

AFAIK they are Cruise passenger charters, a cheaper option than flying them scheduled to MIA and a good use of some of our surplus capacity over the winter months.

Should mean a few stopovers down there too, so I'm not complaining Big grin

Sorry my mistake, flights will commence on Friday Nov 1st 2002, and will continue thereafter on a fortnightly basis until Friday Apr 18th 2003.

Can provide schedules for the routes on request.

So all of this being said, is LGW-BGR-SFB-FLL a possibility, or will these flights be direct to FLL, without any stops along the way (excluding BGR)?
Change is: one airline, six continents!

Yep. Dirty work but somebody's gotta do it  Big grin

All 767-300 services will be direct (non-stop). That is selected services from:

BFS
CWL
EMA
GLA
LGW
MAN
SNN

The 767-200 services will stop (on the outbound leg only) at BGR for fuel. Namely selected services from:

BHX
BOH
MAN
EXT
LTN

In some cases with favourable wind the 762s will make it non-stop on the way out. The strong westerlies across the Atlantic should ensure all return flights to the UK are direct. These services will have nothing to do with SFB, they will not stop there. Although I have a sneaky feeling that us crew may be moved up there on arrival ready to do a "boring" SFB - UK return trip! They can't leave us in FLL for 2 weeks after all...

Rick.
