What Are Midwest Express Future Fleet Plans?

Tue Aug 20, 2002 11:50 pm

Can anyone sum up the future fleet plans for Midwest Express (or is it airlines now???).

If I remember right the had 20 717s on order and some RJs(ERJ-145?) on order.

What is going on with the 328 jets? Are they still being made?

Midwest Express Airlines will officially become Midwest Airlines on January 1 2003 and Skyway will change there name too Midwest Connect on the same date. Midwest will receive there first B717-200 sometime in February of 2003 and the Midwest Connect will receive there first ERJ-140 sometime in the beginning of 2004. If I remember the Midwest Connect will receive 20 ERJ-140 and has options for 20 more. Skyway or the Midwest Connect has 10 328 jets and were supposed to get two more this year but the trouble that Fairchild-Dornier is having were are not going to receive those aircraft. I can't remember if they cancelled the rest of the orders for the 328 jets or not. I will try to find out some info and get back with you.

That's cool that they are expanding out of MCI to EWR, AUS and seasonal service to RSW. I hope there is more to come and looking forward to that. I work tomorrow so I will try to find out how many flights they will have a day too EWR, AUS and RSW. I just wish they would add flights out of MKE but that will come soon I hope.

Here's the press release about the new service to AUS and EWR

I always thought it was odd that Midwest Express served SAT-MCI but not AUS-MCI. Back before the dot com bust Ausin had a lotmore business travelers, whereas SAT had more lesiure traffic. I always thought Midwest Express would do well in AUS.

When Vanguard first started AUS-MCI service they began with two roundtrips, but had recently upped it to 3.

I wonder if Midwest Express will start MCI-COS?

Vanguard started MCI-COS December 20, 2001. It was originally 2x 737-200s, and in June it was upgraded to 2x MD-80s.

I've heard MCI-COS did extremely well for Vanguard, so I don't see why Midwest Express couldn't make it work.

I'd also expect MCI-DEN one day or another. Although the route does have a lot of competition from United and Frontier. However Vanguard did have 5 MCI-DEN flights so they were pretty strong in the market.

Hmmm...amazing how almost every discussion of new US domestic routes ends up becoming about COS!

People have been talking - nay - speculating about COS routes for the past year!
