DIA Waives Landing Fees For Free Flights For 9-11

Tue Aug 20, 2002 11:59 pm

We (DIA) are waiving all landing fees for airlines operating free flights to/from Denver on 9-11-02.

Example: Spirit Airlines is getting $1600 worth of landing fees waived due to their four flights on 9-11.

Any other airline willing to participate may do so.

Cheers, DIA

That is a very nice gesture on behalf of the airport. I hope that airlines that run free flights on this anniversary garner not only the nations respect, but new and consistant passenger traffic.

So far Spirit Airlines is the only one and will probably remain the only one...

But it is certainly good on behalf of the airport though.

I know of no other airline to follow suit, but I heard some hotels were doing similar things as Spirit. I heard on the Today show that Spirit filled up in about four hours.

Am I the only one that thinks it might be something less than good taste to do a publicity stunt like that on the one year anniversary of one of the worst attacks on our nation?

Great gesture on behalf of DIA.

DIA: It looks like you work for the airport authority at DIA (I thought DIA was owned and operated by the City of Denver). I've worked for the City of New Orleans-Aviation Board) for over 15 years in the Airport Operations, Communications, and currently Fleet Managment/Airfield Maintenance departments. When you get a minute, e-mail me at tomm@flymsy.com and we can compare notes.

i have long wondered what the landing fee's are at DIA. are you saying it is only $400.00 dollars to land a plane at DIA?

the only reason i ask is that you said was $1600.00 dollars for 4 flights a day.
do yuo know what widebody fee's are?

ual777contrail:

I can't tell you what DIA's landing fees are, but the computation of the fees themselves is fairly standard throughout the US airport management industry.

Landing fee's are measured on a per 1,000/lbs of an aircraft's gross landing weight. Here at MSY, that rate is $3.51/1,000 lbs for signatory carriers (those have signed lease agreements directly with the airport), and $4.04/per 1,000 lbs for non-signatory carriers (those that don't have leases).

As an example, if United flew an airplane with a gross landing weight of 100,000 lbs into MSY, their landing fee would be $351.00.

How an airport arrives at a specific landing fee rate is rather complicated. It has to do with anticipated revenues from all airport tenants to the airport operator (parking garage, concessions, limos, taxis, space rentals, etc). It gets compared to anticipated total expenditures. The difference is made up via the landing fees. That's why some airports may charge a higher landing fee than others.

No you're not! Since 9/11 I have been amazed at the ease with which people, corporations, etc. have exploited that horrible day for personal profit. Is it really necessary to exploit the deaths of some 3000 individuals to sell food, clothings, purses, etc., etc.? This is just crossing the line.
