What will happen to the old tower, the "toothbrush." Will it be demolished or left where it is?

from the article.

"He said the larger cab is designed to handle future traffic growth at Newark, something that overtook the present tower, which will be demolished by the end of next year."

The new tower is very nice, spacious, and seemingly easy to work in. The offices and breakrooms are very nice, and offer an unrivalled view of most of Essex County and the NYC skyline, not to mention EWR operations. The conference rooms and offices at the bottom are also appointed very nicely. I went up into the tower at the end of December 2001 with a friend of mine whose company constructed the tower (Torcon, Inc.). As of about April 2002, once the tower was structurally complete, the FAA took over to install the necessary instrumentation, properly calibrate it, test it, and prepare the tower for a seamless operational transfer from the old to the new.
