No Additional A330's For Delsey Airlines...

Fri Aug 23, 2002 1:25 am

Delsey Airlines (former VG Airlines) will not be adding extra A330 aircraft in it's fleet. At least not for the moment. Where would they get the aircraft?

The intention was to take over additional EX-Sabena A330's that have been in storage since Sabena's bankruptcy 9 November.

The following ex-Sabena long haul aircraft are still being stored:

A330-200 OO-SFP
A330-200 OO-SFT
A330-200 OO-SFU

A340-200 OO-SCW
A340-200 OO-SCX

A340-300 OO-SCY
A340-300 OO-SCZ

A330-300 OO-SFX

Last week news came out that Air Greenland (ex-Greenlandair) will lease an ex-Sabena A330-200 (OO-SFP) starting in the winter for a period of 5 years.

Just recently Lufthansa has ordered 10 brand new A330-300's that will be delivered in January 2004. Since Lufthansa at the moment is suffering a capacity shortage, as an interim, they will be leasing 2 ex-Sabena A330-200's (OO-SFT, OO-SFU) as well as the 4 A340's (OO-SCW/X/Y/Z)

This leaves Delsey Airlines with only one (and for the moment the only) option:

The question was asked (by the owners) if Delsey was interested but no definite answer was given, so it became Air Greenland and Lufthansa

Wow, thanks for the news A330DAT!!

So they are going to repair the engine of the A342 of SN in Brussels?

Frederic

Hello Frederic,

Yes it may be good news. I had serious doubts whether the A340-200 OO-SCX would ever fly again. If it will then it will certainly be very expensive to get that bird flying again. It has suffered so much by being parked there, without engines:

It was said that the aircraft would get the same fate as 747-100 OO-SGA (broken up for spare parts) Let's hope everyone was wrong.
I had hoped that all these aircraft, someday, would eventually fly out of Brussels but that was/is wishful thinking.

That's true A330DAT but the aircraft will be available again in 2004 when Lufthansa receives their new A330's. Who knows, the aircraft may retun to Brussels. I guess you could say that it's better to have them fly than to let them rot away.

Well it's not a big surprise to hear that !!!

I still wonder how Delsey/VG manages to pay the leasing of their three first Airbus 330-200. I'm pretty sure that ILFC asked for some guarantees which Tony Gram wasn't able to give.
Everybody knows how awful the loadfactors are for the moment... very difficult to foresse any expansion for VG... moreover I predict loadfactors will be worse even from september on as the leisure market was the most popular one so far for VG/Delsey.

I heard through sources at ILFC that they ae going to be reposessing at least one of the A330s for non-payment of leases unless they pay by the end of this month ... can anyone confirm this?
