Picture Of A 747/DC-10 Hybrid!

Look at that image. I found this on some random gallery on imageStation. I could swear that is a 747 nose mounted on a DC-10 tail. But of course no such thing exists.... so what is this mystery plane?

Shot taken at Heathrow by the way.

I can't access the picture but I suspect from your description that it's the green airport fire-training mock-up at LHR which includes a 747-type fuselage and a fin-mounted engine cowling like the DC-10.

Yesh that sounds right. Are the two fuselages sown together seamlessly or is it a poor fit?

This is a DC747, very unusual aircraft. As you can tell from the livery, Braniff was the only airline to order it. I think it was introduced sometime in the late 70s, and mainly flew on the lucrative Muscle Shoals - Little Rock route.

Can't find any DC747 pics in the database for some reason.

Sorry about that.

I have a T1 connection here so I didn't realize the size of it was an issue.

lol Cedarjet  Laugh out loud.

Seriously though, its just the fire training mockup that they use at LHR for all types of aircraft, includes a 747 'hump', DC10 tail and 4 wing mounted engines.

Very clever!!! Much better than using second hand Tridents like most airports.

EGGD,

You mention most other airports uses second hand Tridents, which reminds me about the BEA livery Trident Three parked near the BA maintainance base at Heathrow. It seems to be in good condition - anyone know why it's there?

Try this for info on the Heathrow Trident,

http://www.hs121.org.uk/tps/Gawzk/gawzk.htm

from the Trident Preservation Society, at http://www.hs121.org.uk
where you can find loads more info on the Trident aircraft.

Sadly the LHR trident 3 will never fly again,

read the article to know why
