From another aviation forum...(mileage runner)
"Air Canada's ability to handle larger passengers was put to the test in May, when the airline flew a team of 30 Sumo wrestlers from Japan to Vancouver.
"We had to put into place all our procedures for oversize people," says Air Canada spokeswoman Renee Smith-Valade. "Because the biggest gentleman was about 420 pounds, we had to do seat-belt extensions and put three in a row where we would normally seat five."
Andre the Giant used to buy two first class seats on DAL and remove the center armrest (L1011). He was a walking mountain of a man, but very, very nice. See him in a wonderful move called A Princess Bride.
I'am Dash-8 Rep in Japan,
One of our customers asked about a Sumo and the limit on the Pax door steps . Fortunately the Dash-8 Pax steps are rated for 400 pounds per step so he was good to go .That's my Sumo story and I'am sticking too it!
I don't know if he took the flight or not. He certainily could fit in 2 dash-8 seats with the armrest up .
I hope that someday those guys would come to Finland...I would pay BIG money to see them fly on a charter-configurated B757 with 229 seats with legroom smaller than their knees...
Finnair must be the king of bad legroom!
Speaking of Andre' the Giant, I had the occasion to have both him and Hulk Hogan on a flight to NRT years ago on one of PAA's SP's. They were giver the upper deck by themselves. Full catering as if it were full upstairs, they managed to finish just about everything by themselves! Really nice guys though.
