Usaf 747-400 Combi?

Sat Aug 24, 2002 7:15 pm

Could someone help me? I read in the August issue of Airliner World that the US Air Force is operating one 747-400 Combi. Is that true? The only 747s I can think they operate are the E-4B and Air Force One. Also, what varient is AF One? Thanks for any help!

The USAF operates the following 747s:

Four E4B (747-200B), two VC25A (747-2G4B) and one YAL-1A (747-4G4F).

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

The one you might be referring to, Dash 80, is probably the last one I mentioned, the Airborne Laser. It´s not an M version, rather an F, but apart from that, it fits the description you cite (i.e. USAF´s only -400).

Here are some pics:

Just one more question, and I am sure it has already been asked in other threads but, where did the USAF get that 400, it wasn't from the factory was it?

G4 is the USAF´s customer code at Boeing, so I assume they bought it new from Boeing (delivered Jan 01) - since it´s a 747-4G4F.

All Boeing code here:

Dash 80,

As they say, the USAF got this bird fresh off the assembly line.
I'm not a real aeronautical engineer, I just play one on Airliners.net.
