What Was The Plane In The Movie Final Descent

Mon Aug 26, 2002 7:22 am

Does anyone know what type of plane this was and if it was based on a real life story (which I doubt). Also does anyone know of any movies based on really aviation disasters.
Thanks

There was a movie I remember that was based from the UA DC-10 incident at Sioux City. I think ABC showed it on TV a couple of years ago(Can't remember the flight number or the name of the movie)

There's a movie called "Miracle Landing", about the Aloha incident at Kahului.

Also, there's a movie about the Gimli glider. I recently made a topic about it. I'm sure I've seen others: The Lockheed of Delta that crashed at Dallas had one, for example.

To me it looks like Final Descent "based" on the TWA 800 crash, if you look at the details you can see that they're talking about the fuel tanks and everything.

The United Sioux City crash was Flight #232 DEN-ORD--I can't remember the name of the television movie, but it was something like "Miracle in Sioux City."

The crash of Delta flight # 191 FLL-DFW-(LAX) was chronicled first in a book titled "Fire and Rain." A subsequent television movie of the same name was made a couple years later.

Don't forget the William Shatner masterpiece about the crash of Eastern #504? in the Florida Everglades on approach to MIA from JFK. I can't remember the name of that one either.

I'm sure there are many more....

I think you may have the rong movie. It definily wasnt a 747. It held 219 passengers on the flight i'm not sure if it was full or not. GThe airline was called QUEST and it collided with a small twin plane just after takeoff because the ATC put the small twin on the rong runway. The twin was destroyed and the Jet suffered damage to the tail which caused the elevator to only go up resulting in the plane only being able to climb. The airforce sent a tanker which in midair at 30000 feet filled the front of the plane with water this put the nose of the plane down and the airplane landed safely with no PAX dieing. Does this ring any bells to anyone.

Definately! I was thinking about Final Destination. Sorry about that.

Does anyone remember a movie about a DC-9 crash? I saw it many years ago but can't remember the title.

A bit more details, the pilot survives the crash but dies at the end of the movie, most part of the movie follows the investigation, the crash takes place at the beginning. It would be great if I could have the title

Thanks!

The name of the Sioux City movie is "A thousand heroes", and it's dedicated to the firemen and rescue service from the airport...

Another fine TV-movie was about the Air Canada B767 from Toronto to Vancouver ( I believe ) which ran out of fuel half-way and landed with dead engines on an aborted airfield, which was then used for car racing - ALL survived, even the car racers ....
Reason for bad fuel management : Conversion between pounds and kilograms during the fuelling process in YYZ and lack of back-up fuel gauges - main gauges were INOP.
I cannot recall the name of the TV-movie
