That's probably why EL AL routed thru YYZ to LAX. To add some local sector revenue not possible on say JFK/EWR to LAX.
Yes, El Al definitley wanted the extra revenue passengers, but they rarely operated same-plane service via NYC. During the winter months, LAX-JFK/EWR was flown with a North American 757-200, during the summer months the flight was non-stop. Though the LAX-YYZ-TLV service offers the best possible option. At first, though, and someone correct me if I am wrong, they wanted ORD-YYZ-TLV, but they couldn't get local traffic rights on ORD-YYZ (and it took a while for them to get YYZ-LAX traffic rights). Hopefully we will see less and less of a reliance on NAA for El Al. This summer they are only operting ORD services, with LAX now year-round on LY and MIA finally seeing El Al metal (but NAA will do MIA again in October). Anyone know when LY downgraded ORD to NAA and if there are plans to upgrade it again?
