Hello Flying_727,

I think there is a little bit of confusion in here. "Star Alliance" is the name of the grouping of airlines, which United is one of the founders.

There are 5 major groupings or alliances around. Let me briefly list it to you:

Star Alliance: United Airlines, Lufthansa, Thai, SAS, Air Canada, Varig, ANA, Ansett Australia, Air New Zealand, Mexicana and Austrian Airlines(future members may include Singapore Airlines and British Midland)

Oneworld: American Airlines, British Airways, Canadian Airlines, Cathay Pacific, Qantas, Iberia, Finnair and Lan Chile (future members may include Aer Lingus, Aerolineas Argentinas, LOT, JAL and Olympic Airways)

Wings: Northwest Airlines, KLM, Continental and Alitalia (future members may include Copa, Malaysia Airlines, Kenya Airlines, JAS and Braathens)

Delta/Air France: Delta Airlines, Air France and Aeromexico (future members may include Aeropostal - Venezuela, Air Jamaica and Korean Air and SAA)

Qualiflyer: Swissair, Sabena, TAP, AOM, Air Litoral and Turkish Airlines (Am I missing any?)

If you have any further queries, please do not hesitate to ask!

The fastest way to become a millionaire in the airline business is to start as a billionaire.
