NWA DC-10-40's All Gone?

Tue Aug 27, 2002 4:58 am

Hello!

I would like to know if NWA's DC-10-40's are retired already or not. If so, where was its last flight to, and how did it go?

Hi Dmitry!

Yesterday I saw a seat map of the DC 10-40 on NW`s website. I think that the planes are still in service on domestic routes but I do not know it exactly.

Maybe the DC 10-40`s are already retired but NW forgot to delete the seat map from their site.

I hope that you enjoyed your stay in Germany. It was a nice surprise to meet you at DUS.

Two will be kept for charter work.
1153 until 10/30/02
1143 until 01/03/03
Then there're all gone!

Yes, the DC-10-40's be all gone early next year at the same time the last 727 is retired from the mainline fleet. The 40's are replaced with brand new 757-300's which will be assigned on high density domestic routes, mostly routes from DTW and MSP to the West Coast. But the 30's will be around for another year, two at the most, until the A330's arrive. The A330's which are going to replace the 30's will be assigned on transatlantic flights.
Northwest is the only airline in the United States that still operates DC-10's in passenger hauling.

A few of the dc-10-30's will be on property untill at least 05 now with the talk of delaying a few A330's until 05....

There are always DC-10 NWA aircraft in Seattle. Aren't they mostly DC-10-40's?

What routes will the 757-300 operate? Also, what will replace the DC-10s on the routes to Honolulu? It would be nice to see the A330 on the Hawaiian routes.

Thanks For Flying,
Kris.

Omni isn't a major though, and they only have 7 DC-10s.

Any clue to when the 727's will be gone? From what their media people told me, it won't be for another year (next sept). I know SEA has -30 series too (for flights to Japan etc), the -40's go down to HNL etc.

Alright folks.....NW fleet talk time...

The DC-10-40's will be all retired from pax service in a few days. The last pax service on the DC-10-40's will be on Sept 2, 2002. From that point on, DC-10-30's will cover the HNL flights. As more 753's come online, they will takeoff the traditional domestic flights that were formally operated by DC-10-40's. E7plnr mentioned that 2 will stay for a bit to do charters.

The last 727 pax flights will be at the end of the year on 12/31/01 or 1/1/03. Some will be doing sports charters through the spring.

Currently they only 753 route is DTW-SEA, SEA-DTW
However more flights will be added in the Sept Schedule
For Sept 753's will be on:DTW-MSP, DTW-SEA, MSP-DTW, MSP-SEA, MSP-MEM, MEM-MSP, SEA-MSP, SEA-DTW
Oct: DTW-MSP 2x, MSP-DTW, MSP-MEM, MSP-SEA 2x

Will the B753's take over the DC-10-40 summer flight up to ANC?

I really enjoyed Germany, Patrick!

I tried to email you but your address doesn't work. I'm suprised that the 727's will be gone by the end of the year....any ideas on what the final routing will be? My guess is the flight will terminate in DTW or MEM. I'd love to be on the final flight, if you could email me any info that would be great.

Dazed767, the final 727 flight will land in DTW, not MSP. I don't know where it will come from but I'm 90% certain it will arrive in DTW where festivities should be held like those that were held three months ago in MIA when American retired its last 727 (I was there!). Northwest has already pulled the 727's out of MSP.

That's not true. Last week I have seen them still in service in MSP!

MSP still gets quite a large number of DC-10-40s but they are going quick! We still get a lot of 727s as well.

Does anybody know the last routes for the NW 10-40s? Is there time to get on one before they go bye-bye?

The DC-10-40's probably will all be gone by April of 2003. One of the last flights might be from MSP to DTW or vice versa.

Do you happen to have a schedule on the last scheduled flights for the -40?

Any idea if the NWA is still flying the -40's to ANC, or are they -30's now?
