Fake Sky Marshall, Threw Up & Arrested(PHL, USAir)

Philadelphia airport and US Airways again? What will happen tomorrow?  Big grin

It's only Tuesday, but it's already been a heck of week for flying in and out of Philadelphia International Airport.

Less than 24 hours after a woman was arrested for flying with a loaded .357-caliber semiautomatic, Philadelphia cops nailed yet another air traveler - this time for actually shooting something off.

His mouth.

David Vassallo, 46, a postal employee from Glenmoore, Chester County, was jailed last night facing two misdemeanor counts of impersonating a law enforcement officer.

Vassallo allegedly walked into the first-class cabin of a US Airways flight shortly before its scheduled 11 a.m. departure to Charlotte, N.C., and bragged to a passenger that he was an undercover federal sky marshal.

Police said the passenger to whom he boasted really was an undercover federal sky marshal.

Lt. Michael Chitwood, of Philadelphia's Southwest Detectives, said when the real sky marshal asked Vassallo for some identification, he first claimed that he was a postal inspector on loan to the sky marshals. He finally conceded that he was a postal worker from Virginia.

Chitwood said the marshal went to ask the captain to delay the takeoff, and when he came back to look for Vassallo, he'd left the plane, telling a stewardess that he had to throw up.

Authorities then canceled the flight, sending bomb-sniffing dogs on board as they searched the airport for Vassallo, who was arrested in the men's room. He was charged with impersonating a law enforcement officer and providing false identification to law enforcement authorities.

Wow, what are the odds of a fake undercover officer bragging to a REAL undercover officer?
Last year 1,944 New Yorkers saw something and said something.

He went to the restroom to throw up... perhaps he was drunk when he said he was a sky marshall? Or was he expecting to get lucky by pretending to be a sky marshall?

Here's an idea.... hire this guy as a decoy sky marshall. If there is a real terrorist onboard, he'll shoot the decoy sky marshall. The real sky marshall can then shoot the terrorist...

What this man did was weird but probably not illegal. As far as I know, impersonating a police officer is a crime only when done in some sort of official context, for example in asking to see a motorist's license. Just bragging to someone else - even to another law enforcement officer - may not be illegal.
"Let me think about it" = the coward's way of saying "no"

Not sure what the charges/penalties are for impersonating a federal sky marshall. However, I suspect it must be more serious than impersonating to be an agent of the FBI, which usually means 3 years or 250,000 dollars fine.
