Codeshare Numbers On One Flight

Wed Aug 28, 2002 4:19 pm

I am in HK airport waiting for my flight and I noticed that there is one CX flight with three flight numbers attached:CX 721, MH 9721, BA 4561. The flight is from Hong Kong to Kuala Lumpur and then to Penang. This is the first time I have seen so many different numbers on one single flight.

The question is: what is the highest number of flight numbers attached to one flight you have seen? I know two is very common, but three is the first for me!

4 is the highest. Three is really common in SIN! Why do some flights have 4 digit numbers but some are code share?

I was on a 4 flight number from ORD-LAX. SAS, Lufthansa and Thai had their code on it.

Quite often the KLM uk flights from the UK to Amsterdam have UK, KL and NW prefixes.

It was not uncommon for BD to have 4 or 5 codeshares on the same flight before they got involved with Star. They now only have 3 (BD, LH and sometimes GF)

I have seen SK flights leaving HEL for CPH with SK, BM, OS, LH, TG, UA and JK on one flight.

Theoretically a flight can have as much codeshare flight no. as they want to have since there is no restriction on it.
There are a lot of code share flights with at least 3 airlines selling it. I remember that last year ie. the Swissair flights between GVA-ZRH had Codeshare with JL and AA. As it has been pointed out this happens mostly within Star Alliance, Oneworld etc.

I have seen LH flights FRA-HAM which had more than ten codes on them - lotsa Star Alliance codes plus some others with whom LH only has bilateral agreements.

Almost all KLM European flight have at least two (KL and NW). However on morning flights 4 is very common (KL, NW, MH and KQ).

Just that 6 is the maximum for a KLM flight. It's a flight from Olso to AMS (KL1140, CO9692, KQ0140, NW8540, MH9240 and MA6777).

Alot of KLM flights have a large amount of codeshares. You could almost call them a charter airline lol  Big grin
