What's The Best Aircraft You've Actually Flown?

Fri Aug 30, 2002 7:48 pm

This is not really intended for the professionals out there, unless you've flown something you wouldn't normally fly. Most of the GA pilots will have only flown in something small but occasionally you get the oportunity for something really exciting like a military fighter or even an exec jet.

I've taken control in a RAF VC10 on a couple of occasions, the best being a complete circuit at 3000ft down to 400ft and a go-around. I always think that they would have let me land it if it wasn't for the 30 knot cross wind (fat chance really with just 50 hours on the clock in a 152 but I can always dream).

Lets hear what you've done and make us all jealous.

Well, for the moment, I've only flown 2 aircrafts. A Robin DR400 for a 20 minutes discovery flight a few weeks ago, but I'm actually one of the youngest ATR72 pilots, having piloted one at the tender age of 15.
No, it was not no a simulator.
It was a real ATR, with real pax, on a real commercial flight.

Ah, damnit, it was just a course change on AP during a cockpit visit.
But then...

Recently I've had the chance to fly a Pather Navajo- not only does it look sweet, but the control forces are amazingly light resulting in a very nimble aircraft IMHO.

I liked the MD-11 very much......one of the smoothest flights I ever had.....too bad the seat pitch was horrible.....

Lear 24. Awesome aircraft; as close to a fighter as I'll ever see!

Doing a photoshoot with Clay Lacy in the left seat was a spectacular experience.

I have flown a PA-31-350, sort of. Susan tells me that I would have crashed and killed us both if she weren't on the pedals. About killed me anyway because I am not a born pilot. I can fly a 172 just fine (I think) but I really don't care much anymore for flying.
