This MD-80 rolled into a terminal building at EWR...the mechanics were working on it and if I got the story right, forgot to set the brakes...it rolled right into the gate area where passengers were...there are pics of the nose sitting next to the gate podium. That's the most I can tell ya.

To provide a bit more info on the event. This is/was CO Ship 884, Gate was 114 at EWR. And it happened early morning 0500-ish so as I recall no passengers were yet in the area.

How would you like to be the man who forgot to set the parking brake? Probably the most expensive mistake he ever made (mine is only a few thousand dollars).

Care to elaborate, Spark? Anyway, stupid stuff like hitting buildings and lamp standards happens pretty often there was a similar incident with a SAS/SweLink Saab 2000 a couple years ago at Arlanda...here is the pic

Wasn't there also an incident similar to this involving a NW A320 at LAS? If I remember correctly, the mechanics forgot to set the brake and it rolled backwards, taking down a lamp post, fence, and seriously damaging itself..

My favourite plane-to-building incident is when test pilot Scott Crossfield crashed his F-86 Sabre into the hangar after landing and loosing hydraulics. Chuck Yeager had a good laugh .........

Here's a couple of pics from inside the building..."Now Boarding directly into the aircraft at Gate 114!"

Enjoy?!?

The sad part is I believe the aircraft was a total writeoff, wasn't it?

Humiliating way to go.:-(
