NW DC10-40 Currently At FLL

Sat Sep 07, 2002 12:02 pm

Thought all these birds have gone. Today, Sept 6th, NWA
DC10-40 N133JC is parked at FLL behind the International terminal
next to the fence. This aircraft must have brought the Detroit
Lions into town as they face the Dolphins in the season opener
on Sunday. Imagine the aircraft will remain "parked" until
Sunday afternoon. Great opportunity to catch this elegant
bird for one of the few remaining times before they are all gone....
Long Live the DC10!!!!!

Well, that would make sense to bring the Lions down. Monday was the last day of passenger service for the DC-10-40's. They are all eventually on their way to the chop shop in MS. Interesting you saw N133JC. 2 -40's will be around for a few more months for charters, but those were supposed to be #1153 and #1143. Maybe they decided to use #1133 one last time or so.

PSU - Ship 1143 is indeed N133JC. This is the one a/c with the curveball fleet number. I guess this is one of the 2 DC10-40s that was leased to ATA at one point. I believe the other one burned in a ground fire years back.

Whoa, I was not aware of that. Thats kinda odd that the fleet numbers don't match up.

Yeah, you're right about that ground fire.

August 10, 1986
McDonnell Douglas DC-10-40 N184AT (46751/36, ex-N142US), American Trans Air
Chicago-O’Hare International Airport, Illinois
Ground Fire
Occupants: 0
Fatalities: 0
A mechanic, improperly handling a loose oxygen generator from a damaged passenger seat-back in the forward cargo hold, set off the generator. This ignited the seat covers, along with oil stored in the forward cargo hold. The fire eventually burned through the cabin floor.

So that used to be N142US...

I learn something everyday.br

Wasnt N133JC the plane that was leased out to JET24 and was
operated by Domincana for awhile? I guess the ole bird will spend
the remainder of its days doing NFL charters and then straight to
the Coca-Cola factory.....
