BA 757 Nosecones

Whats up with the ring around British Airways' 757 nosecones? Do they serve a purpose? How come they don't have them on their other aircraft, or how come other airlines don't have them on their 757s? Just wondering

Back in the early 80s when Ansett got 767-200 and 737-200 the 737s had a black ring around the nose so that they could tell them apart from a distance. That's what I was told anyway...... So could it be for BA to tell the 757s and 767s apart?

Hmmm....So some of them do have it, and some don't. What's up with that, what is that ring?

It is an enhanced avionics package on the 757. I think it has to do with the either the auto land or ground proximity warning. Someone in the forum knows the exact answer.....

I think it had to do with MLS landing system for better reflection to the groundstation. Since MLS is not being taken up as a standard and GPS, VOR, ILS and other older form of navigation are more popular BA could have moved away from MLS so no need for the ring anymore.
