There were rumours that the new livery will have polished metal instead of paint (just like American Airlines). I heard this rumour a few months ago - any news?

The reason for the freighter flying around with a polished body for the last 6 years or so is to test how the metal can be kept looking good. Not to mention the huge costs saved in paint and the removal of paint.

Lets also remember how many Lbs of paint a 747 needs !!

Even if a plane isn't painted it will carry paint... They don't have the plane fly around totally naked because that would give corrosion an invitation to eat the whole body...

It wouldnt have paint, because they developed a way to get around the need for paint for corrosion protection didnt they?
a special polish perhaps?!
im interested to see what goes on regardless, cos it might be something to really look forward to seeing in the skies, other than just another toothpaste tube!

I'm hoping for a bare metal scheme as the last thing I want is a white aircraft. As it is, JAL's livery is terrible, especially on a 744. I used to see them when they flew to my city, and those were the ugliest 747s I had ever seen.

JAL's current livery isn't that bad as a matter of fact I like it. In any case, I'm looking forward to their brand new identity!!

Does anybody know what the status of the Crane is? I hope they keep the Crane on the tail as it has become my first thought when I think of JAL. The Crane needs to stay.
