Awesome!
Good too see the 747 family expanding further, even if its only for once carrier at this time!

Very nice, I'll take one myself.. let's see $1,500.00 and $425.00 and I should have her paid of a couple of thousand years, but then where could I park her.

But back to reality.. She sure looks super in the Qantas livery

Does anyone know what names Qantas are going to give to the six new 747-400ER's. Looking at this photo it would appear that this aircraft does not have a name at this stage. The name is normally located near the Australian Flag towards the back of the aircraft.

I know the aircraft is called "Longreach", but then all Qantas 747-400's are called "Longreach", much like SQ has all "Megatops". Each Qantas 747-400 has it's own city name as well, with the exception of VH-OJS,OJT & OJU which arrived during the no naming period Qantas has had recently.

Hope someone can help with this info.

Thanks

Yeah... but it does not look any different to any other QF 744, apart from the engines.

Wasn't the second 744ER supposed to have a special livery. Anyway still looks great. Would be good to see some photos of the new interior 777 style. I know that all the 744ER's will be delivered with the new IFE system in place but not sure if they will come with the Business Class beds. Does anybody know?

No the new 747-400ER will not have the new Business Class Beds on arrival. The Sleeper Seats will be retrofitted to these and other 747-400's starting March 2003. Mainly flights to London then Hong Kong & Europe will be the first aircraft to receive them. The Pacific config'd aircraft will probably be the last aircraft to have the new J Class Sleeper Seats fitted. At least these new 747-400ER's will come fitted with the new PTV's in Y Class, which will be a huge bonus on those long over water Pacific sectors. With already half the 747-400 fleet fitted with PTV's in Y Class they should be able to finish the others in the time frame Qantas have given, which is Feb 2003.

Thanks

Anyone remember the family television show "Skippy"? It was about an Australian park ranger and his two sons, and their pet kangaroo. Dunno why that show came to mind while viewing these pics.  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Way to go, Qantas! Hats off to Boeing, too.
Hopefully, all 747-400ER operators will have the ER designation painted on their aircraft so that some of us can spot the difference.

Yep, looks very nice!!  Smile

What happened to the "The" in "Spirit of Australia" though?
In view of QFs desire for a stake in Air NZ, how about naming it "City of Auckland"? Big grin
Now that would be a coup!
They must've run out of Australian cities by now, surely.

AWspicious, you've got me singing the Skippy song now!!  Big thumbs up

I might actually get a chance to see this bird in person as a city that they are debating service to happens to be mine. I can't wait. It's a beaut!

ZK, Qantas have started naming their aircraft again. All the new 737-800s have names along with the new A330s. As for names running out, they seem to be scraping around at the bottom of the barrell now, but with the retirements of 742s coming up, we should see some names return.

Of course I remember skippy (the bush kangaroo) ! Australias finest actress, ever !

I always wondered about the 'bush' kangaroo part though. I mean what else was it going to be, the inner suburbs kangaroo, the central business district kangaroo or the inner harbour penthouse kangaroo perhaps ?
