Comair Retires EMB-120

Sun Sep 15, 2002 1:35 am

Comair has finally operated its last EMB-120 flight and is now an all CRJ carrier. Personally I will miss these little workhorses. I really enjoyed flying them esp in Florida during the summer months. BUMPY......If anyone feels the way I do about these planes, drop a line here to let me know.
Take care all

Sarcasm ON:

Oh, I'll sure miss those great Brasilias!!!!!!!!!

Sarcasm OFF:

Having worked around them @ EV, and flown on one of OH's, I hope I'll never have to be around one ever again! The only time I ever flew on one was when I was trying to non-rev back to ATL from MCO, and ended up taking a Comair flight to TLH in order to catch a DL flight to ATL, because I didn't want to have to stay at MCO for another 7 hours until the next flight that I would be able to non-rev on. Flying on that Brasilia was only the second time I have ever been scared while flying (the first was when I flew for the first time).

It's somewhat sad to see them go but we are now finally all jet. That plane hung around here like a bad habit that wouldn't go away. It seemed like for the last two or three years it was supposed to be the last year for the EMB-120. But different circumstances kept the plane around.

I am proud to say that I logged 1,951 hours in the Brasilia for Comair. Been in icing, hit by lighting, sucked a bird through the #1 engine on rotation out of EYW, had the cargo door fall off at the ramp and numerous other things in my time in the bird.

It always brought me home.

Being that it was my first airliner, it will always hold a special significance for me. It was fun to fly (more fun to hand fly than the CRJ) pretty quick, and very stable on approach. I miss doing 11,000' downwind's and cleared for the visual abeam the tower. Slam dunk!

I now look forward to the CRJ-700. Classes have already started and it should be on property either in Oct or Nov.

Happy flying!!!

The piece of junk's time is up.

Yeah JHooper,

I'm sure that one about with EMB-120 aircraft as for Comair were not good as for the engine and etc to do. I think prefer that like best of CRJ-200/600/700. I like with the jet aircraft. I actually that I did flew on the CRJ by 4 times as for myself. It is great ride on the aircraft. I did flew on EMB-120 with USAir Express and Comair too. I did flew on N257CA. I think. So anyway, I'll talk with you soon.

I knew it was coming- hate to see them go.

I love the Brasilia!!- I grew up on it. I flew them at least 5 times on USAir Express out of CMH when I was little & always enjoyed it. Since then I've flown twice on them on ASA & on one ComAir flight. Always a nice looking, smooth riding (IMO) plane.

Hopefully I'll be able to get on another one in the future!

When does ASA get rid of their Emb120's? Quite a few of them still buzzing around Atlanta!! Do the markets ASA serve (some of the smaller southeastern ones) have the ability to handle CRJs?

To me the 120 brings the feeling of real flying.....I personally do not like the CRJ. They are economical, but to fly on they are horrible. The windows are soooooooooooooooooooooooo low that it kills my neck to look out. I do remember the 120 not being to comfortable if you are on it to long. I flew it when Comair had the MCO-BHM route. That was to long for that plane. And for ASA I believe I heard that they will be gone in about 1 1/2 yrs.

I never flew the Brasilia, but I do fly the CRJ and after 4 other transport aircraft I can honestly say the CRJ is a dream to hand-fly. With a roll rate comparable to an F-15 and 45 degrees of flaps to get me down, I'd put money on the CRJ on 11,000 ft downwind making the runway easily.

Sad to see the zilla go? Sure but its kind of a misconceived exit of turbo-props after the new(old) ATR's in CVG.

I am a fan of the Brasilia. I love flying on them whenever I am out west and will miss them when Skywest finally stops flying them in place of boring CRJs. Fly on one while you still have the chance.

When will the CRJ-700s enter revenue service, and which routes. I am flying Comair CVG-MCO next April and 7 months out, there are only two seats (both emergency exit) left on the plane. Since the flight is so full in advance, I am kind of hoping that they will upgrade the flight to a CRJ-700 or a 737-200 since they are moving into CVG.
