What Will KLM Be Doing To Its MD11's?

Sun Sep 15, 2002 6:19 pm

Sorry if this topic has been covered before, but what will KLM be doing to its MD-11's? Are they gonna be replaced with the new A330's and 777's? Its just sad to see all these MD-11's going to cargo airlines. The MD-11 is one cool looking bird.

Thanks, BizJets  Big grin

They're going to be replacede by the A330/B777 and the MD-11s (or some) probably end up as cargo. Some rumours suggest KLM (or Martinair) will take over a few once converted but nothing is confirmed.

At the moment KLM will keep it's MD-11's, but when the A330's and 777's start rolling in from 2003 onwards, the MD-11's will be leaving the fleet.

I have no inside info on this, but all MD11s are leased according to http://www.bird.ch/avmark/library/e_libr00.htm?68,32

48555 12/09/93 KLM (ILFC)
48556 03/02/94 KLM (WTCI)
48557 06/24/94 KLM (WTCI)
48558 09/17/94 KLM (WTCI)
48559 11/19/94 KLM (WTCI)
48560 12/17/94 KLM (FT MELON)
48561 05/13/95 KLM (WTCI)
48562 09/01/95 KLM (OCCABOT BEHEER)
48563 11/09/95 KLM (ILFC)
48564 04/28/97 KLM (GOVERNOR)

I guess the MD11s will be returned to the lessors at the end of the lease & KLM has no concern at all what happen next.

I thought the initial 772 orders were to replace the aging 743 fleet?
I dumped at the gybe mark in strong winds when I looked up at a Porter Q400 on finals. Can't stop spotting.
