Virgin Blue Webpage - City Names Misaligned On Map

Tue Sep 17, 2002 12:43 am

G'day everyone

I had noticed this several times before, and thought it may have just been my computer. However, I was reading a newspaper article yesterday morning that made a statement about VirginBlue's geographically inaccurate map. To me, it appears that the city dots are in pretty much the correct places, but the names do not line up correctly (hence it appears that Melbourne is in South Australia, and Launceston is in the ACT!). Has anyone else noticed this? If it isn't just me, it may be worthwhile dropping a line to the webmaster and letting him know about it...

I haven't noticed this before, but how annoying. It only happens when you select certain text sizes in your web browser. On Internet Explorer the city names line up if the text size (in the view menu) is set at medium. The webmaster should really rethink their design problems.

Well, I am just on DJ's page now, and there is a new map, with proper cities (and with the silly "routes that you can fly by connecting through somewhere else" gone as well). Well done Virgin - Provisional Pass on GEOG1001  Smile

They've just painted all the blue "connecting routes" white, to make it look like they do actually do routes like "Gold Coast-Perth non-stop"... where you still have to go through Sydney... (it's like if SQ drew SIN-LAX nonstop on their route map, but in fact you have to go through TPE or other cities...)

It's like the "the only airline that calls Australia home" ad from Qantas, where they drew the routes (lines) twice to make the route map look really "extensive"...

well there you go, our two main domestic airlines...
