United Upgrade?

Tue Sep 17, 2002 12:58 am

I am quite happy with my window seat (52K) on UAL ORD-DEN 744 service soon, but i've heard that airlines upgrade people for free if there are any first or business class seats available. is that true? and if so, how can i go about putting in a good word for me to be one of the ones to get upgraded? i doubt there is a way, but just maybe?? thanks  Smile -nick.

Sorry, operational upgrades are only for Premier Mileage Plus members if, and only if:

1) Coach is overbooked, and more pax have checked in than seats available
2) Business and First class have open seats
3) The agents cannot get enough volunteers to free up space in Coach

Other than the fabulous C-class seat, you are not missing much. While Economy gets a beverage, C and F get a snack (usually a sandwich with some really good cheesecake) that is really nothing to write home about.

Of course, if your flight is indeed oversold, maybe you could volunteer and ask nicely to get confirmed on a later flight in F?

Maybe some UA experts (employees) can help. I'm going to ROC-ORD-SEA-SFO-LAS-IAD next month . After I booked by tickets on UA's site,I requested an upgrade with 500mile increments. The status says 'pending'. When will I know If I'm upgraded on the 2 flights I requested? Will I know when I get to the airport? I realize that UA is waiting for someone with highter status (I'm a Premier) or someone who'll pay for 1st. Just wondering. I was looking forward to upgrading on the 2 longer flights (ORD-SEA & LAS-IAD) both on 757's . I'm a Perimier with 80k miles.

Hi United_Fan... this is the former SFOintern.

United has upgraded your upgrade confirmation  Smile as a premier from 24 to 48 hours prior to departure.

So you will know whether you have been confirmed an upgrade 48 hours prior to each departure by way of the method you selected (pager, e-mail, wahtever). You shouldn't have a problem on ORD-SEA, from the loads I've seen on that route. LAS-IAD shouldn't be a problem either because it's a 757.

Premier Execs get confirmation 72 hours prior to departure time.

1Ks I beleive it is 100 hours? I forget...

actually that's only when using 500 miler upgrades...

If you want to try C class, let me know and i'll sign over some 500 milers to you (if they let me) so you can try the upper deck of the 744 on your run... just drop me an e-mail.
