Best Way To ATL

Tue Sep 17, 2002 10:32 am

I'm looking to fly to ATL from NYC in Nov.

I've looked at DL from LGA and HPN, and Air Tran from LGA as well as CO from EWR. However, while LGA has dirt cheap prices, HPN is much more convinient, and CO would allow me to take advantage of FF miles.

What should I do?

HPN generally has higher fares due to having to connect through a hub such as PIT or PHL on US or via CVG on Comair. Try EWR on Delta , AirTran, USAir and CO. You might even be able to find a fare via America West through CMH.

Airtran $158 RT LGA-ATL-LGA
Delta $269 RT HPN-ATL-HPN
Continntal $176.50 RT EWR-ATL-EWR

Assuming your 16-20 age profile is correct, you have to ask yourself if going on CO out of EWR just to capture the FF miles is worth the extra $18.50, especially if you're alot of FF miles away from a reward ticket.

Assuming it's not, you then have to ask yourself if it's worth $111 of convenience to fly DL out of HPN versus Airtran out of LGA. If it is, you have your answer. If it's not worth the $111, especially if you're paying for this trip with your own money, I'd head to LGA....

($111 will buy some fun in ATL...)  Big grin

It all depends on where your from. If you from a place like Danbury, CT, maybe HPN is better because its a lot closer. But if your from Westchester County, saving the money by going to LGA or EWR is smarter. If it was me I'd take the AirTran, unless your a bigtime CO FF man.

America West doesn't fly to Atlanta from Columbus.

When did HP drop CMH-ATL. I thought they were running ERJs on the route?

When I used to live in Atlanta and go to New York I probably flew connecting flights on CO 2 or 3 times, try checking fares out LGA,HPN-ATL on CO through CLE. If you are interested in FF miles that is the way to go.

They dropped it some time ago. I'm not sure of the exact date. I thought they used to fly it with the CRJ.

The only airline that flies CMH-ATL non-stop is Delta.

America West's CMH-ATL route was the first route to be flown with Chautauqua's ERJ-145's. The route was discontinued after Sept. 11 along with CMH-MDW.
