Actualy ERA kept their Convair 580's around for so long is that the Dash-8's do have some issues with single engine perfromance with the Airport in Valdez, Ak. The Convair is just that much better. Of course the Valdez airport has a 4000 foot decision height too, which is pretty high for a near sea level airport.
But I have heard recently that those Convairs are going to be gone in March.
As far as everybody bitching about the ride in Turboprops, They are full of it. I flew on a Markair -300 from Dutch Harbor to Anchorage once. That is 831sm away.
Was one row in front of the props, it wasn't a problem. Go a neat view of ice buildup on the spinner.
OBAMA-WORST PRESIDENT EVER....Even SKOORB would be better.
