Only ships 7002 (N861DA) and 7008 (N867DA) are in 3-3-3 config. The other 6 are in 2-5-2.

Why were these two configured with 3-3-3?

Is Delta planning to convert the rest of the 777s to 3-3-3 seating as well?

Thanks!  Smile

Yes, I think that Delta is replacing the seats in their 777s and converting to 3-3-3 in the process. Apparently, the old seats ate up legroom and the controller for the IFE was inconveniently placed (on the armrest, where people rested their arms, leading to flight attendant call buttons ringing all the time, or so I've heard).

The original plan was for all the 777s to be reconfigured starting Q4 2001 into 3-3-3 with the TIMCO overhead crewrest modules. Obviously, post 9/11, the funding for this was cut off and only 7002 was able to be retrofitted in 3-3-3 and with the new crewrest. 7008 was delivered from Boeing in March with the same 3-3-3 layout, but without the actual crewrest module installed.

One of the 777's goes in for mods in October. It will likely be 7008 for the crew rest facilities. A third one will go in for mods at the end of the year. 777 will fly ATL-NRT when at least 2 of the planes have been modded out.

That is pretty neat crew rest area. Some airline should set that up for revenue use as an ultra premium product. I think that would match anything the A380 has in store for passenger amenities.

I had the opportunity to see the crew rest area on a/c 7002 from CDG to JFK yesterday and it is fantastic...not cramped at all. The one for the f/as is in the middle of the Economy cabins while the one for the pilots is in the forward area just in front of the center section of Row 1 of the BizElite cabin. The pilots' includes a sink as well while both have comfortable swivel seats in addition to bunks.

There has been no announcement regarding suspension of ATL-NRT. As previously mentioned, the flight is averaging 80+% load factors...you can still book the flight well into March 2003 at www.delta.com
