Airbus Offers 15 A345/346 To EVA

Mon Sep 23, 2002 8:47 am

Airbus is offering a proposal to EVA which will see a mix of buy and lease for up to 15 A340-500/-600.

EVA has begun the reconsidering its 777 orders. The company is reported that being unhappy for being the only customer for 772LR.

Boeing is currently offering EVA to turn the 8 options into firm orders.

EVA ordered 3 772LR and 4 773ER in 2000, with 8 options.

There are various speculations on whether EVA will actually cancel the firm order if it ordered 340. Airbus is expected to dispose the 777 before it delivered to EVA once EVA decide sticking with 340.

Jim:

You know this is old news. Flight International reported this probably three weeks ago. Airbus is dangling very sweet deals in front of EVA, but it doesn't mean EVA is biting because Boeing isn't sitting still either.

Will EVA take the A340-500/600 with RR Trents over the GE90 powered 777-200LR? Almost all of EVA's widebody aircraft are powered by GE engines.

There is not that big of an advantage in having four engines. Four engine aircraft have higher diversion rates than twin engine jets. Given EVA's route network, ETOPS requirements would present only a small penalty. I hope they stick with the 777s.
