Can 757s Take LD3s?

Wed Sep 25, 2002 5:14 am

Can Boeing 767/757s take standard LD3s or do they just take bulk in the hold like the 737?

The 757 is all-bulk but the 767 can use various LD-type containers.

767's can take LD3's but they have to be turned facing a different direction, the 757 are mostly bulk.

DHL 757 can take uld in the lowerdeck hold, but I don't know the code. The look like akh (a320 container) but a bit smaller.
LD3 can be loaded on b767 just like LD2 (standard 767 uld) but only one row, which means you loose lots of space. LD1 (standard b747 uld) can also be loaded on b767 but flat side first and you also loose space.

To follow up on what ATA L1011 said, the main cargo disadvantage of the 767 versus the A330, or DC10 and MD11 for that matter, is that it can only take one row of LD3's, whereas the others can take two rows.

I don't know about the 757. I do know that the A320 series can take a container (big deciding factor for SAA and ANZ for example), but I don't know what the name is, whether it is an LD3 or something smaller. So I assume that the 757 can take some kind of container, but maybe not the LD3.

Okay, enough talking out the rear. Any insight, anyone?!
It is not enough to be rude; one must also be incorrect.

Looking at the information about the A320 family on this website, apparently they can take LD3s the A320 taking seven. There is no mention about containers for the B757 and the B767s take LD2s.

Seeing as how the 757 fuselage is the same as the 737 727 and 707 i dont thin that they can take LD3's, ive never seen one loaded with containers...the 320 is a wider A/C and it can take them but Its rare the airlines get them that way...

The LD3 container for the A320 series is a variant called the LD-45.
The only modifications that some B757 have had is the telescoping
bulk pit that is motorized to push the cargo/baggage forward.
Ive heard that its very maintanence intensive and was not very
popular with many carriers...
Western airlines used to have some special containers they used for their
B727's but again, they were very limited...
Cargo doesn't whine, moan, or complain

744rules,
can you give a registration (either OO- or G- maybe?)for the B757 that can take ULDs in the lower holds??? I haven`t come across any DHL 75F that is able to carry containers in the lower holds. And the converted ex-BA 757s don`t even have the telescope-like loading devices anymore. Less weight but more payload!

Yak42,
A320s cannot carry LD-3s as they are way too large, but take a look at
http://airliners.net/open.file?id=272754, that should give you an idea what these so-called AKH-containers look like.

I was suprised as well. UPS' 75's have two 44" x 55" doors on the belly. I don't know of any ULD's that would fit.

I have never seen an LD3 on a 757 or an A320.
I have only seen them bulked out, not container loaded.

The main deck of the 757PF holds some kind of container obviously. But the lower hold is bulk as eveyone has already stated.
