Is It Still Possible .... To Visit BA Cockpits?

Thu Sep 26, 2002 3:24 am

Hi!

Dear friends, I'll be flying in December with BA from LIS to LHR and then from LHR to SFO. I have my kids that will fly with us, so my question is it still possible to visit BA airliners cockpits now?
I wait your feedback.
regards

Sorry, 'locked door' policy now in operation since a maniac sent a BA 744 into a nosedive over Sudan 2 years ago...even though he invited himself into the cockpit.

A lot of airlines have done this now (can't fault them though.)
I recently flew MyTravel from Manchester to Orlando Sanford and I asked one of the F/A's if I could have a look round the cockpit. She asked the pilot and he said no.  Sad

I understand why they have done this and i'm glad they have increased their security.

I am not sure about Capt. Picard's reasoning for the BA policy; in August of last year, I got an en route flight deck visit of a BA 777 flight from LHR to IAD. Post 9/11, I have not even tried.

We airliner gooney-birds should really drop the idea about sitting in jump seats, getting in-flight visits to the deck, etc. The flight crews have enought to do without entertaining us geeks. Ask for a tour once you arrive at your destination.

Absolutely no cockpit visits now, BA are doing a rolling programme of temporary-standard strengthened doors, to a definitive standard able to withstand close range firearm attack, with close circuit TV and enhanced locking systems, these are being fitted now.

In April 2001 I had a visit on BA LGW-JFK on a 763. It was awesome. I'm sure it won't ever happen again....

Everybody's right.

They refused me when I asked on Sunday, and quoted September 11th. Same goes for Virgin.

However, some airlines still allow the visits (eg Augsburg Airways, a commuter for Lufthansa)

Hi!

Yeah! Why not? I have some friends that did a tour to Eire in August and they had a great time, the irish are very nice and great people, the only problem they had when they arrived was the unique way irish speak english, and you know we the portuguese have always some problems to tune our english to local english ( I think this is because our english teachers in Portugal teach english with portuguese pronunciation..... ), so during the first hours they had an hard time but after a few days they where ok!
Yes I will no doubt try Aer Lingus one day!
regards and thanks for your advice!!!

I believe it's still possible though not in-flight. After 9/11 I got vists on SQ and QF. After flight, give it a try!
