Wow! Wow! Wow! 2 Or 3 Vintage Jets In Toronto!

Thu Sep 26, 2002 8:14 am

Toronto is not a hotspot for vintage jets, but today in the afternoon, it was
nice and sunny. All of a sudden, a jet comes into view and I see it's something
different. I think it's Russian and then...I see it's a lovely grey RAF VC-10!!!
I have only seen one before, last Spring. Wow, those Conway engines sound
exotic!

Well, I was doing some work in the garage and hear another jet. I don't go
out and look right away but when I do, I make it out to be a DC-8! I haven't
confirmedly seen one of those since the Summer of 1999!!! I couldn't make
out enough features but it seemed to have a dark (blue?) cheatline, a red
symbol on tail, and to have the nacelles of a -61 (or less likely a -50, I don't
think it was so short though.) And then, 2 minutes later, ANOTHER VC-10
flies by, nice and low!

Okay, does anyone know the registrations of these aircraft and what airline the
DC-8 was? Something from Africa maybe? I've never had a day like this here
before!

Oh wow. That DC-8 was from Africa. It flew from Spain, I posted something earlier about it. I didn't know the VC-10's were coming in though! Anybody know the status of any of these aircraft, if they've left, or if not, when they are leaving? Thanks in advance.

Thanks, Captain and Dripstick. This would then be my only proven DC-8-54
on record! I suspected as much as the African carrier.

I envy you, Duke. I haven't seen a DC-8 in several years, and I've never seen a VC-10. Any chance you could talk those guys into flying down to IAD for a few days?

Thanks for the news.
