Virgin B747-400 At Ams?!?!

Fri Sep 27, 2002 12:25 am

When I drove past Schiphol this afternoon, I saw a Virgin B747-400 taking off at approx. 3:15 PM. Does anybody now what the aircraft was doing in AMS? Whas it diverted from LHR?

I think KLM Maintenance does all maintenance/modifications on Virgin 747 's...

Probably a test or back home flight

Maybe an Asian flight with some fuel problems due to head winds. That brought a BA B744 to FRA a while ago.

About 2 months ago a VS 747-400 flew AMS-NCL-AMS on a test flight, so AMS must be where they have maintenance done.

Virgin currently have B747-400 maintenance and paintshop work done by both KLM at Amsterdam and FLS Aerospace at Dublin - so the airline's B747s make regular visits to both cities.

When Virgin Atlantic's hangar officially opens at Heathrow next month the number/frequency of trips to AMS/DUB will be reduced as more work is done in-house.

The a/c was G-VAST, which then operated the VS001 LHR-EWR straight after its arrival from AMS.

Klm do the heavy maintanence on the 747 fleet at AMS, and FLS do the A340 fleet at DUB.

Last time I was in Dublin my little Ryanair 737 rocked in the jetblast of a Virgin 747 that departed immediately before us. So FLS don't just do the Airbus.

VS has their new livery pasted on in AMS. FLS does work on Boeing too. AirMalta contracts out 737 work to FLS in Dublin all the time.
