ARLINGTON, Va., Sept. 27 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- US Airways, the only airline offering hourly Shuttle service every business day between Boston, New York and Washington, D.C., is leading the industry with five reliability guarantees that highlight its superior level of service.
* On-time Guarantee: If a US Airways Shuttle flight departs the gate more
than five minutes late, all Dividend Miles members on the flight will
receive 1,500 bonus miles, which count toward their Preferred status.

* Seat Guarantee: If a US Airways Shuttle customer arrives at the gate at
least 10 minutes before the scheduled departure and cannot be
accommodated within 30 minutes of the scheduled departure because the
flight is full, the member will receive a $200 travel voucher.

* Counter-to-Gate Guarantee: If a US Airways Shuttle customer is unable to
get from the check-in counter or electronic ticket kiosk to the gate in
20 minutes or less, he or she will receive a $200 travel voucher.

* Reliability Guarantee: If a US Airways Shuttle flight is cancelled for
ANY reason on the day of departure, Dividend Miles members on the flight

Airways will pay that customer an additional 100,000 bonus Dividend
Miles.

These new guarantees are in effect through Dec. 31, 2002, and apply for travel any Monday through Friday.
The Dividend Miles bonus mile offer is combinable with other Dividend Miles programs such as the current triple-mile offer that is in effect through the end of the year. Not more than one seat guarantee and one reliability guarantee can be collected by an individual traveler on the same day.
"Through this offer, we are reassuring our customers of the reliability of our service and its superiority to American Eagle and Delta/Comair in these markets. We are so confident that we are providing on-time and reliability guarantees, regardless of the cause -- no excuses," said Stephen M. Usery, US Airways vice president of marketing and revenue management.
Bonus miles relating to any of the Shuttle guarantee Dividend Miles offers will be credited directly to a member's account within six weeks of travel. Complete details on the Quick Check-in Guarantee can be found at http://www.usairways.com/shuttle .
Through Dec. 31, 2002, US Airways Shuttle customers who hold non- refundable tickets can stand by for other US Airways Shuttle flights at no additional charge on the ticketed day of travel. All rules of the original fare purchased will apply for standby travel on non-refundable or flight time- specific fares. Standby travel must occur during the same travel periods as defined in the original fare purchased. Standby travel does not apply to youth or senior Shuttle fares.
This Shuttle guarantee is in addition to the existing Triple Miles offer, which allows Dividend Miles members traveling on the Shuttle to earn triple Dividend Miles through Dec. 31, 2002, with bonus miles being applied toward Dividend Miles Preferred Status. To earn guarantee or flight bonus miles, customers must be enrolled in the Dividend Miles program prior to departure. Members can enroll at http://www.usairways.com or airport check-in. All Dividend Miles terms and conditions apply.
US Airways will continue to honor all competitive airline discount fare coupons for Shuttle travel. Terms and conditions apply as defined on the coupon.

100,000 Dividend Miles for not boarding through a jetway??? isn`t that a bit excessive? But i like It!

"* Reliability Guarantee: If a US Airways Shuttle flight is cancelled for
ANY reason on the day of departure, Dividend Miles members on the flight
will receive 10,000 bonus Dividend miles." This program will be going til December, all through the Winter season... Isn`this going to cause problems if flights are cancelled cause if Weather? we all know how the weather in the Northeast can be in the Winter.

US must really be feeling the pressure from Acela. I wouldn't be surprised to see DL up its guarantees too. At this point, however, I suspect that nothing either airline does will be enough. Acela has become the new standard for Washington-New York-Boston business travel, replacing the shuttles' decades-long run.

With the recent, highly-publicized problems with the realibilty of the Acela trainsets... I doubt that it is causing concern for USAirways. I'd venture they are concerned more about American Eagle and DL Shuttle.

I was on the international flight out of JFK-VCE flight as from last of March 2001. This is my very long flight out of New York. I did remembered that one as for myself. It was on the ramp by the near of aircraft to the shuttle bus and then, taking us to the baggage claim and passport controls. So hope this is your helps. Thanks!!

I flew the USAgony shuttle on Tuesday of this week, DCA/LGA/DCA. Upon arrival at both airports, passengers were given the option of forward (jetway) or aft (stairs) exit. Overall, the service, and ontime departure, was fine. But at LGA at 6:00 p.m., you have to line up and wait for take-off.

The problem with the Acela train is that it can't handle the cruddy old train tracks. I don't think that many regulars are switching their preferences.

I used the triple bonus miles back in August, but still I will take AA over USS even if the plane is smaller.

Damn. What airlines will do to attract pax...

Maybe US Shuttle should try a new perk that no other shuttle has, such as LiveTV, to attract pax. But I guess they won't have any money to equip their fleet, thus resulting in the excessive giveaway of miles.

Oh well.

Don't doubt their money position just yet. They now have about $500 mil in extra cash to play with and will soon has more from the ATSB backed loans. Expect a lot of positive changes soon as they emerge from bankruptcy here in about 3 months. Who knows...maybe the Shuttle product will get a complete work over that will make it uncomparable to anyone else.

There are TONS of loopholes US has given themselves here:

>>* On-time Guarantee: If a US Airways Shuttle flight departs the gate more
than five minutes late, all Dividend Miles members on the flight will
receive 1,500 bonus miles, which count toward their Preferred status.<<

If it DEPARTS from the GATE. That means that if it backs up 5 feet and has maintenance done to it, then they still had an ontime departure from the gate.

>>* Seat Guarantee: If a US Airways Shuttle customer arrives at the gate at
least 10 minutes before the scheduled departure and cannot be
accommodated within 30 minutes of the scheduled departure because the
flight is full, the member will receive a $200 travel voucher.<<

Nothing really special. I could've sworn that it used to be 15 minutes.

>>* Counter-to-Gate Guarantee: If a US Airways Shuttle customer is unable to get from the check-in counter or electronic ticket kiosk to the gate in
20 minutes or less, he or she will receive a $200 travel voucher.<<

I thought that it was 20,000 miles last round? And the fine print at US.com reveals the following:
-"Customers taking longer than 20 minutes from completion of check-in to the gate will not be eligible for the voucher if they arrive at the gate in time for the scheduled departure to the ticketed destination". This means that you have to miss your flight to receive the $200 voucher.
-"Guarantee does not apply in an irregular operation situation due to weather, government mandated security actions, or other circumstances out of US Airways’ control". This means that if you are selected to get strip searched for what ever reason, US doesn't have to give you the voucher.

>>* Reliability Guarantee: If a US Airways Shuttle flight is cancelled for
ANY reason on the day of departure, Dividend Miles members on the flight
will receive 10,000 bonus Dividend miles.<<

That means day of departure. Watch this winter when US cancels every shuttle flight for a day in advance because of an approaching storm.

Not a huge deal.

Lowfareair...

US cannot do maintenance after a flight pushes from the gate. It must return to the gate. Pushing it from the gate and then doing maintenance is a major safety problem, and US would never jeopardize safety of its employees or passengers. NEVER. Also, is even a cargo door is opened after pushback, ACARS shows a return to gate and new out time once the door is closed.

What the heck is your problem with these guarantees anyway? Your comments coupled with the "desperate" remark from DeltaSFO continue the long standing tradition of bashing US Airways on this forum.

No need to take a shot at me. Perhaps you could merely recharacterize these remarks so I understand their context. Delta has been aggresively marketing its Shuttle product in recent months, to the detriment of both US and Amtrak. Can you explain why US openly admits that they're doing this because they want so badly to prove that US Shuttle is supposedly "better" than Delta and American Eagle products?

It is not desperation, US has been aggressively marketing the Shuttle since spring. I doubt the marketing push Delta has put on has been much of a detriment to US. Both carriers are really going after Acela, and the poor media reporting that has given the general public the impression that it is such a hassle to fly, the time saved by air is taken up by security on the ground (ala Delta billboards in NYC showing the tail of a plane departing the billboard to the right, while the nose of the train enters from the left.)

You made the desperation comment, not me. Look through all the postings that mention US Airways in this forum, and people bash them more than other US carrier. It is disgusting really. The Eagle product is clearly less than both either US or Delta offer (lack of standup headroom, RJ vs mainline sized aircraft capacities, and I am sure the A320 and B737 have better dispatch reliability than an ERJ). US is putting a guarantee on it's services. If you look closely at the guarantee, it appears targeted at both Acela (time guarantee), and Eagle (seat availability, jetways, cancels). The company feels the US Shuttle is a superior product in this market. What is the problem with this, and why does it seem like desperation (again, your words, not mine)? What context do you not understand?

N628AU: Maybe not maintenance, but there have been stories of pilots pushing back 5 feet from the jetway, and then stopping to complete paperwork, whatever. It has happened at all airlines. I'm just saying that the guarantees to show that Shuttle is great should go more like this:

* On-time Guarantee: If a US Airways Shuttle flight arrives to the gate more
than ten minutes late, all Dividend Miles members on the flight will
receive 1,500 bonus miles, which count toward their Preferred status.

* Seat Guarantee: If a US Airways Shuttle customer arrives at the gate at
least 5 minutes** before the scheduled departure and cannot be
accommodated within 15 minutes of the scheduled departure because the
flight is full, the member will receive a $200 travel voucher.

* Counter-to-Gate Guarantee: If a US Airways Shuttle customer is unable to
get from the check-in counter or electronic ticket kiosk to the gate in
20 minutes or less, for WHATEVER reason, he or she will receive a $200 travel voucher.

* Reliability Guarantee: If a US Airways Shuttle flight is cancelled for
ANY reason, Dividend Miles members on the flight will receive 10,000 bonus Dividend miles.

* Jet Bridge Guarantee: If any US Airways Shuttle customer is forced to
board a US Airways Shuttle flight outdoors without a jet bridge, US
Airways will pay that customer an additional 100,000 bonus Dividend
Miles.

**they say in the check-in guarantee that you will arrive to the gate within 5 minutes, so it should be that here too.

US Airways bashing is the "in" thing here now. Just like the US vs. the World debates that went on and on (causing Johan many migranes i'm sure). You'll also notice a lack of many US employees on this board...many, if not all, prefer usaviation over this site -- if not for Chip's and others' inside information, mainly because all airlines seem to coexist over there with out a lot of the backstabbing you get here. However, both boards serve their purpose. This one is more geared towards enthusiasts and photographers while the other is more for employees and investors and those with a key business interest (like me wondering when my stock will be nullified - LOL).

I have never stopped after pushback from the gate for any reason except to accomodate traffic behind the aircraft, nor have I ever witnessed this.

Ouboy...

I usually read this forum for a good laugh, but seeing so many uninformed people has finally pushed my buttons, and yes, I prefer USAviation as well. What kills me here is that US Airways is offering guarantees on it's product that no one else in the market is, and it is either termed "desperation" or it is picked apart to the nitty gritty. It really begins to sound like envy to me.

Long live USAirways!
