Where To Find Takeoff/landing Videos?

Sun Sep 29, 2002 5:32 am

Does anyone know of any sites where I can find videos of aircraft landing and taking off shot from inside the aircraft?

Some of the trip reports on this site include videos, and I was wondering if there were any sites where some are available.

Here's my personal favorite one; I shot it from inside a Delta L-1011 on takeoff from HNL in 1997.

Jhooper,

Nice video from the L-1011. During the last 3 seconds of
the video, what is that thing on your lap? A GPS receiver!? Big grin

I can just picture the FA going by and say
"Excuse me, Sir, I can assure you the pilots won't get lost!"  Big grin Big grin Big grin

Jhooper, I can't believe how long it took for that L-1011 to get airborne. Even fully loaded and fueled for a trans-pacific crossing, it seemed like it went on forever. By 4:20:08, I would have concluded that there was something very wrong. The last 10 of those forty-five seconds of racing down a runway, and still being on the ground, would have alarmed me. Then that excessively sharp bank to the right would have had me clutching the arm rest.

Glad it was you and not me!

One other note, Jhooper's video is the only one taken from the passenger's perspective on any of these sites. Cockpit videos are a dime a dozen, and show very little out the windshield, but passenger seat videos are almost non-existent, and much more dramatic. I wish there were more of these.

N.B. I timed the take-off run times for other planes, even 747s, and they were between the mid-20s to the mid-30 seconds. Forty-five seconds is at the point where you begin to think that the pilot intends to drive the plane to its destination, and what you are actually looking at is the beginning of the highway footage of the long drive back home.

I loved the Delta take off video. I too wish there were more pax perspectives.
On a side note, I had a similar experience taking off on an Air New Zealand 747-200 from Nadi to Honolulu. It was a packed flight, and I remember the take off roll went just a bit longer than I felt comfortable with. I know that feeling when you wonder 'uh, is it going to get off the ground?'

dont' know why, hot/humid environment? extra fuel? Perhaps it had to have more fuel to go onward if HNL was closed.. Obviously we got off the ground fine!
