Why Dont Airlines Operate Just The 777-300 Type?

Sun Sep 29, 2002 6:15 am

Most airlines operate the 777-200 type or both the 772 and 773 in their fleets, do any plan to just add the 773 type to their's? or is the 773 a flop? only the East Asians have favoured it (Korean, JAL, ANA, Cathay, Singapore, Thai) with one airline each in the Middle East and Europe i.e Emirates and Air France?

Air France does not operate the 773....I recently posted an article concerning the popularity of the 773....here is the link: http://www.airliners.net/discussions/general_aviation/read.main/924905/6/

The reason is that having both -200's and -300's in the fleet makes the aircraft fleet more flexible. They share the same type rating and one only need transition training mainly for taxiing to operate the -300 series. Besides, the range of the -300 is less than the -200ER and the longer range allows the operation of different routes than the -300 allows.

Pretty much the same reason airlines operate different types of 737s, 767s, 747s, Airbuses, etc.
They're built to serve different markets.

As far as I know AF have taken or planning to take some 773's on lease, also my question remains unanswered why isnt the 773 suitable enough to operate alone? not every airline operating the A330-300 has the A330-200 or v.v same goes for the A340-200/300 and the aircraft mentioned above.

AF placed a firm order to Boing for 10 B777/300ER.

AZ has also 6 options for the 300ER version.

Yes its a bit tooooo stretched. I still dont understand why the 773 cant be used as 747 Classic replacement without the 772 also being part of the fleet, how many stops would a fully laden two class 773 need to fly on present 747 Classic routes?

Definately the B773 can do KHI-LHR nonstop.....it does it for Emirates and the distance from KHI to LON and DXB to LON is pretty much the same..its a good question that why doesnt any airline operate just the B773 and why is it that the only airlines that operate the B773 are operators of B772 too....
