Saturday at about 12:30 I met up with seasoned a.net photographer Tom Turner for a photo session from my favorite spotting location.....the dock.
My little dock across from Flushing Bay from La Guardia is jsut great. It's private, open and gives you a great view of most airport activity.
Tom and I found a great spot there yesterday on top of a wall, which was taller, sturdier, and more comfortable than the abandoned tractor I used to stand on right next to the dock. It was great.
The palces were landing on Expressway Visual 31, so they were coming over our heads, some planes close to 50 feet away.
We were there for several hours, with Mr. Turner snapping away with his D60, even letting me take a few shot of....oh boy.....an ATA 737-800. If they came out well, they will be uploaded onto the site (maybe my first a.net pictures!).
We saw 2 Delta 767s, lots more private jets than I usually see at LGA, and we even saw AA's 737 with their old school paint scheme. It was outrageous.
We even had a good wind which gave us some nice crosswind shots and some bouncy landings. I even used a picket tool to cut down a small tree to open up the view of a taxiway to get pics of lineups.
With weather the previous night that made us concerned abotu whether or not we'd even be able to meet up, we ended up getting a day of spotitng that was jsut about as perfect as it could get. Beautiful clear weather with a nice crosswind, great runway usage, finding a new spot, with a great guy liek Tom Turner and his great camera, I couldn't think of how it could get bettter (pertianing to aviation at least, some women and beer would have been cool though lol).
A great day, for which I give Tom Turner a big thank you. I hope you all get to see the pics we took yesterday in the near future.
