What Is This Plane On The Boeing Website?

Mon Sep 30, 2002 4:58 am

Look at the Boeing website:
http://www.boeing.com/commercial/flash.html

What is that plane? Has Boeing announced a new plane and I just missed it?

You might have missed the discussions of the new "sonic cruiser" or the so-called "Boeing 808"

Thanks! I certainly did not miss the discussions of the Sonic Cruiser, it's just that I had always seen side pictures of it and it looked a lot narrower and sleek to me than that plane on the website. I never would have guessed that that thing was the Sonic Cruiser. So does this mean that it is still being designed? I remember a few months ago, there was a rumor going around on these forums about Boeing canceling the Sonic Cruiser program.

Wow! The SC really does look ugly from that angle. I agreee with Airplanetire that previous pics of it make it look narrow and sleek - much nicer than the one on the website.

I thought they were going to give up on the SC to persue a better 757/767 capacity/range aircraft...

Are they still working on the SC seriously?

I have a friend at Boeing who told me that the sonic cruiser looks nothing like the pictures they've been passing around.
Last year 1,944 New Yorkers saw something and said something.

I believe Boeing is studying two versions of the Sonic Cruiser. I think this is a drawing of the midwing version, and all the rest of the pictures or of the aft-wing version.

M27 - that looks to me to be a front on view of the aft-wing version shown in all the other pictures. Look at the canards, the engines, and where the trailing edge of the wing is in relation to the fuselage. It all looks exactly the same as the other publicity photos.

What I want to know is if they intend on having a 5 pane flight deck windshield, or if that is a mistake, and they will be sticking with 6 panes.
